NYCPeach - Pimping out your Gadgets
February 28, 2005
I’m sure many of you out there have seen pictures of the pimped out Sidekicks that Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton carry around. Until now I just assumed that they were custom made for the divas themselves. Turns out that us ordinary folk can pimp out our gadgets as well. NYCPeach.com will glammerize your ipod, cell phone or digital camera. They also customize other gadgets as well. As expected, their prices are steep - $350 for a mini ipod, without the Mini Ipod included ofcourse. I guess I shouldn’t be suprised, as always - diva prices for diva items.

Dell’s 2005fpw 20 inch LCD Widescreen Monitor
February 27, 2005
For a week now I’ve had the pleasure of using the Dell 2500fpw 20 inch LCD Widescreen Monitor. For months I had been postponing buying it because of the price. Dell priced it at a reasonable $799 but that was more than I was willing to spend for something I didn’t exactly need. These past 2 weeks dell has had great coupons and sales so I was able to get it for $507 which is a great price for a 20inch display. No doubt, this display is on sale because of the upcoming 24 Inch widescreen display that Dell recently announced. Either way, I am really happy with display, and it was worth every penny. The colors are rich and clear and it’s really nice having a widescreen display when it comes to using programs like photoshop, and it’s also great for having lots of windows and tabs open at once. Also, when playing games like the Sims 2 the game comes out vivid and crisp.
The physical design of the monitor is nice as well, it’s very slim and professional looking. Interestingly enough it comes with 4 usb ports built into it. The only thing i can complain about this beauty is that it can be too bright, so bright that it’ll make your eyes tear. But you can easily lower the contrast and brightness settings so this really is not a valid complaint. Mikhailtech forums has a good review of the monitor with pictures.
If your interested in getting the 2500fpw when it’s on sale, bookmark Ben’s Bargains, it’s a great site for discounts.

Sync Mag survey of Women on Technology and Gadgets
February 26, 2005

I’m not the biggest fan of Sync Magazine because they tend to have womanizing comments in every issue. Putting that aside they had some interesting stuff in their recent Febuary/March issue. Here is a survey they took of women reguarding technology and gadgets. Some good laughs here.
New Dell 17 inch Widescreen Multimedia Laptops
February 25, 2005

Dell just announced two new powerful desktop replacement laptops. The first is the Dell XPS Gen 2, a gamers dream laptop with great video card options and a 17 inch widescreen. Pricing starts at $2,749 USD. However, it is quite masculine looking and isn’t going to attract many ladies with its design. Next is the Inspiron 9300 which also has a 17inch widescreen and can be configured with powerful specs as well. It’s got the white mac’esque styling of the Inspiron 700m and configurations start at $1599. I think the 9300 model is going to attract a lot of attention with its price and screen. Either way Voodoo & Alienware will be pissed when they read about these two models. For more on these laptops check out MobileMag
$6 a month will get you a virtual Boyfriend or Girlfriend
February 24, 2005

Artificial Life Inc. of Hong Kong has developed new software for your cell phone which allows you to build a relationship with a virtual boyfriend or girlfriend. Your new date will be able to interact with you via text messages and streaming video. Not only will your new partner be good-looking but they’ll also be intelligent enough to be able to talk about 35,000 different topics. This relationship will cost you $6 a month, not including the price of extras like buying your virtual gf or bf gifts. It’ll be a little while before this arrives in the U.S. and it will only work on 3G phones which aren’t very popular here yet. This whole gimmick seems like Tamogochi/Giga Pets for adults. Well at least it’s cheaper and less emotionally draining than real-life dating.

New Ipods announced today
February 23, 2005

Yesterday’s rumor was that the new ipods that’d be announced today would all have color screens. Today that rumor proved false, and I’m a bit dissapointed. But their new line up isn’t half bad. They now have a new ipod mini with 6 gigs for $249 and they extended the battery life on it to 18 hours. The old ipod mini with 4 gigs is now $199. - Amazon.com has the older Ipod Mini for $179 . They also added a 30 gig ipod photo for $349. Not exactly revolutionary changes here as far as the hardware goes, but by lowering the Ipod Mini price they are going to be selling a hell of a lot more ipods. As if they weren’t already!
Fashion and Technology
February 22, 2005

Today’s New York Times has an article on the impact of women’s Fashion on Technology. It discusses how designers are creating stylish laptop, mp3 and other gadget cases for the modern woman. It also talks about the role of fashion in designing current electronics, and how tech companies are trying to attract the female audience. For example - the ipod mini that comes in pastel colors.
Also, Cnet.com has some more photos of fashionable gadgets cases like the Chanel cell phone case above.
Ancient computer memorabilia up for Auction at Christies
February 22, 2005

Remember those days when computers were the size of your garage? Hell, no! It’s hard to imagine that the first computers were so large and did so little. The average cell phone nowadays is more advanced then those first mammoth machines. But we gotta give’em credit, they were the first and they started the technological revolution which changed the world as we knew it. Christie’s auction house in New York City is auctioning off some classic computer memorabilia. "Items up for grabs include an early version of a data storage disc dating from 1951. It weighs 5.5 pounds and could only hold about the equivalent of one paragraph of text." - Cnet

Ann - Just another girl in a Cubicle
February 20, 2005

ThinkGeek.com has a bunch of Dilbertesque cubicle playsets. Not to leave us nerdy girls out, they have a female figure called Ann. She comes with her own cubicle office. Notice that her screen has solitaire on it, you never see chicks playing that at work!
Firefox Browser is shaking up the web browsing world
February 18, 2005
2 weeks ago I downloaded Firefox, a free Internet browser. I haven’t gone back to Internet explorer since then. Sites load up much faster than they do in Microsoft Internet explorer 6.0 and I love the tabbed interface that Firefox sports. I’ve used Netscape and Opera in the past, they both have tabbed interfaces as well, and i thought they were ok but somehow i always fell back to using I.E. 6.0. Well it seems that I’m not the only person that Firefox has won over
Lady’s Ipod & Ipod Mini Cases
February 18, 2005

Previously I posted about lady’s laptop cases. But what about Ipod cases for women? I’m so sick of seeing those black leather cases on everyone’s ipod. We need color! Not that any of these cases are made specifically for women…their for guys too. Anyway here are some ipod cases with flare.
Pacific Designs I love the stripe!
Noreve Cases A white case! Practical no, pretty yes.
Sena Cases I have one of these cases in blue, great quality case.
Anyone else have any other recommendations?

Separated at Birth?
February 16, 2005
We’re all accustomed to funky designs from Nokia, so this latest model really threw me off! They obviously ripped off Samsung with this design. Don’t get me wrong, I love Nokia phones, but this is a bit much for me. Two years ago Nokia said theyâd never make flip phones, then their sales started to drop and they caved into making clamshells. For example - the unsuccessful Nokia 6260, and the recent 7270 & 6170. Despite the fact that this new Nokia 6101 phone has a rip off design, it reportedly has some good features like Push-to-talk. And itâll probably have a great speakerphone and reception which is common in Nokia phones. Of course it’ll be a while till we see it here in the U.S., if we ever do get to see it here. So why do I love Nokia so much? They use one of the simplest and fastest operating systems out there. I’ve also owned several of their phones and have always been happy with them.
Pretty in Pink - Voodoo M50 Laptop
February 16, 2005
Voodoo pc’s are computers that excel at gaming, if you are willing to pay their hefty prices. Today they just announced a new laptop line - the M:515’s for "men and women," but putting that news aside, I noticed this other line of customizable laptops on their web site. The M50’s weigh 3.4lbs with a battery and internal dvd/cd-rw drive, and you can pick its color. With this laptop line they seem to be aiming at us ladies, or at least us lady gamers. I’m always up for new ultra-light weight laptops but chances are I would not order mine in pink. Really how many women would? These laptops really are very customizable - you can pick out a swanky tattoo design for the cover. There are a couple of cool ones to choose from - a flower, a butterfly, a unicorn, a whale, and a couple of more tougher-looking ones.
iPod Hip Tunes Belt

This belt really is as hip as it’s name. It’s also available in 3 colors at Target.com for $29.99. I just might pick one up myself.
