Samsung X1 the Ultraportable Laptop Like No Other
August 30, 2005
A sub 4 pound laptop with a 14 inch wide screen, built in optical drive and a dedicated 128mb video card - this dream ultraportable is unheard of - until now. The Samsung X1 is one of Samsung’s latest laptop offerings, and it certainly is one of a kind. It weighs just 3.75 pounds, is 19.2-23mm thick/thin, with a 14" WSXGA screen, a 128Mb ATI X300 graphics card, runs on a 1.1Ghz Pentium M733, has 512Mb of DDR2 RAM and a 60Gb and 5400rpm hard drive. The only dissapointing aspects of the X1 is that the keyboard seems a bit dislocated by having been placed at the front of the laptop, and the processor is a kind of slow at just 1.1ghz, but hey that wouldn’t stop me from buying it if it was available here - which it probably will never be, because Samsung’s laptops rarely make it over to the U.S. Samsung, why do you taunt us like this? Phonepocket Holder Accessories for Women from Verizon Wireless
August 29, 2005
I’ve never associated Verizon Wireless’s marketing with anything feminine. Not that they don’t want women to purchase their wireless products and services, I just never noticed any aggressive marketing towards a female audience on their part. Which is why I was kinda surprised to see ladies’ cell phone accessories sealed in Verizon Branded packaging at Circuit City. Verizon Wireless’s Online store, and Circuit City are currently selling Phonepocket Holders for women that come in four designs: Green Hearts, Orange/Pink Daisy,Yellow Argyle, and Blue/White Checks with a butterfly. These phone holders are inexpensive and range from $7.97 to $12.99. While I didn’t expect to find Verizon selling cellular accessories for women, I’m all for it, especially when their affordable - which is something Verizon doesn’t do very often. I hope other cellular providers copy Verizon and start selling cellular accessories as well that are "female-friendly" - in other words, accessories that aren’t all bland, and typical.

Panasonic MD player SJ-MJ500 in Pastels
August 26, 2005
The Panasonic SJ-MJ500 MD player looks like a chip off the Ipod Mini block,
because like the Ipod Mini, it’s available in a choice of pastels. The SJ-MJ500 has small (transparent) D.SOUND
speakers and comes with a cradle. It also has a solid 22 hour battery life and
weighs just 90 grams. In Japan MD players are popular, but we’ll probably never
see these state-side which is kinda sad because these certainly are pretty.

Google Talk Beta is Here! (IM & Voice)
August 24, 2005
There have been rumors for some time now about a possible Google instant messaging client in the works that would support voice calls. Turns out the rumors were true! The new Google Talk allows you to instant message other Google Talk users, as well as make Voice Calls to other Google Talk users. The Beta version is now available to download here. Unfortunately, a Gmail account is required for Google Talk. The good news is that Google Talk is compatible with Gaim and Trillian. However, the voice calling feature only works if you’re using the actual Google Talk software.
The Google talk beta version, like Google and Gmail, is designed with a clean and simple interface without much bells and whistles. Time will tell if this instant messaging client can compete with more popular and flashy IM clients such as Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger. I wouldn’t bet on it though… unless they add some customizeable icons and wallpapers, or some extra special features, I just wouldn’t bother using it. Us ladies need color in our IMs!

Asus J103 Cell Phone
August 23, 2005
At first glance, the pink flower-motif of the Asus J103 might cause you toassume that its just a toy. However, this handset is just a phone that comes in a choice
of female-friendly designs. Oh, and if this phone looks familiar, that’s because the Bewitched phone is an Asus J103 as well. (Source: Akihabara News)
The New Canon Powershot SD30 Ultracompact Fashion Digital Camera
August 23, 2005
You might recognize the stylish and slim Canon PowerShot SD20 from LindsayLohan’s music video for her single "Rumors." Well here comes the Canon Powershot
SD30, the replacement for the popular SD20. The SD30 sports a new design and
comes in 4 new vibrant colors; Rockstar Red, Tuxedo Black, Glamour Gold, and
Vivacious Violet. A big complaint about the SD20 was its lack of optical zoom.
The SD30 improves on the SD20 with a 2.4x optical zoom
and 1.8 inch LCD screen as opposed to
the SD20’s 1.5 inch screen. Unfortunately, the megapixel count
stillremains at the same 5.0 megapixels, however that really is adequate for most. Also, the SD30 includes a new accessory - a fashionable cradle with a wireless remote for playback, charging and
printing. Canon’s site says it’ll be available in September. I lost My SD10 last
week, so I ordered the SD20 today, and just a few hours later I learned about
the upcoming SD30. There’s just no keeping up with technology.

Biological USB Drives of a Sort
August 22, 2005
The great thing about the 21st century is that with the help of computers,we have access to technology at our fingertips. But what if we had access to
technology that was actually Inside of our fingertips? Researchers at the
University of Tokushima’s Department of Optical Science have managed to encode
data on to the human fingernail. A femtosecond laser is used to encode the data
which in turn creates microscopic sections that emit fluorescence levels that
can be read by observational technology, such as blue-laser diode illumination,
CCD sensors, or imaging lenses. Ok, yes it is all very technical and
scientific… Anyway, an average of 5mb of data can be encoded and unfortunately
the data will only last about six months, or the amount of time that it takes a
fingernail to grow out completely. Next on the agenda will be an attempt at
repeating this process with skin, teeth and other biological parts.
recently I posted about a printer in Japan that uses technology to print
images onto our fingertips, and then there is that usb thumb drive that stores
files and looks like a real
finger, and now they’re working on putting technology into our actual
fingertips… anyone else overwhelmed? (Source: PC Mag, September 6

The Bewitched Phone
August 19, 2005
The Bewitched Phone has to be one of the cutest girly phones ever. This handset is essentialy an Asus J103 with a Bewitched themed design. That means that the phone is a light-weight 80 gram, Tri Band phone, with a built in camera, GPRS, and third party support for Java applications. The Bewitched phone package even includes a matching keychain and pink phone cover. (Source: Phoneyworld, Via Gizmodo)

USB Flash Drives are great because their ultra portable, and are probably the most convenient way of transferring and storing files. Bun-J Crystal Collection Neck Straps for Cell Phones & Mp3 Players
August 18, 2005
Rhinestones have been showing up on cell phone and mp3 player cases for a while now, so it’s only natural that someone would put them on the neck strap that holds your cell phone or mp3 player. Bun-J has a new Crystal collection line for their neck straps. The 3 new models include âruby velvetâ, "dream onâ and âfeel your liberty.â These will go great with my customized Tattoo-Skinned Ipod. Sorell’s Mini-PMP
August 18, 2005
Here is yet another little wonder-gadget from the far east that we will probably
never see here. Sorell’s SF-3100 is a true Mini-PMP
(Portable Media Player). It weighs a measly 34 grams,
measures just 30×65x15mm, and supports MP3, WMA, OGG files
for music and Mpeg4 for video files. It’s available with
256Mb or 1Gb storage capacity. And it also comes in a selection of colors
including blue, red and black.
At this rate I think I should just move to Korea or Japan.

Apple Gadget Design Concepts
August 17, 2005
One of the reasons Apple is so popular is because of its powerful designs. Robert Brunner, who oversaw the design of the
Powerbook, has created some design concepts for possible Apple products of the
future. Unfortunately these products aren’t scheduled to come out anytime soon,
which is a shame because they are stunning! I especially like the drool-worthy
iPhone, if only it wasn’t fiction. Read more about these Apple gadgets concepts

Fishing with Flair
August 16, 2005
Ok, so fishing gear usually doesn’t fit into a Hi-Tech category, but if you
stretch the definition of "gadget" can’t a bait kit fit in somewhere? Anyway,
this Tackle Bag with Lure
Kit from Fishergirl.com is extraordinary because it’s made especially for women! How many
tackle & bait kits have you ever seen that were made for girls, eh? Of
course the kit’s case comes in pink and the bait included are plastic, shiny and
kinda pretty. Best off all, part of the $30 price for the kit goes to
breast-cancer research. (Source: Time Magazine, August 22 2005)
MyTego- Truly Customizeable Skins for your Gadgets
August 15, 2005
There are alot of skin companies out there to customize your gadgets with,
however MyTego offers a truely unique customization system. Via the MyTego web site, you can
design your skin and have a preview of what it will look like exactly as you
made it. That includes being able to upload your own images, as well as skewing,
transforming, adding color, and adding text to your own design. I think I’m gonna be ordering one of these, for $12.00 it’ll be fun staring at our logo every time I use my Ipod mini.

USB Cup Warmer
August 15, 2005
Seems like nowadays they’ll make anything they can into a USB powered
device. The USB Cup Warmer is a prime example. It’ll keep coffee, tea, or any drink warm at a max
of 176 degrees F (80 degrees C) So if your the type that likes
to keep a hot cup of coffee near you as you sit typing away, then for $9.98
this is the sure-fire lazy way to go about it.
iStudio Suite - The All Mac Hotel Room
August 14, 2005
For all you Apple addicts who miss your toys when your traveling, the iStudio suite at the Tribeca Grand Hotel is the place to stay when visiting Manhattan. The suite is pimped out Mac-style with an ipod and Bose sound dock, a G5 computer loaded with recording, editing and ripping software, a Sony camcorder, an iSight camera, and even some DVDs. Pricing for this suite starts at a pricey $499, but where else could you get all of this in your hotel room - short of bringing it all with you. (Source: Laptop Magazine, September 2005)

HP Photosmart 475 GoGo Photo Printer with 1.5 gigs
August 13, 2005
The HP
Photosmart 475 GoGo Photo Printer looks just like its sibling the 375,
but unlike the 375, the 475 has internal memory so that you can store photos in
your printer. The 475 GoGo photo printer isn’t stingy with memory either, it
carries a substantial 1.5 gigabytes of memory which can hold upto 1,000
pictures. On top of the great memory capacity, the 475 also prints pictures from
most memory card formats, has a fine color display, prints pretty good photos
(not upto par with Epson’s photo printer though), and it
can print wirelessly from camera phones and PDAs with the optional HP Bluetooth
bt450 Wireless Printer Adapter.
I own the 375 model and have been very happy with it, it’s very portable
and takes about a minute to set up, which is why i bought it in the first place.
At $280 the 475 GoGo Photo printer is very reasonably priced for a printer that
is one of a kind.
BeeTune Mp3 Players with Infrared
August 12, 2005
These upcoming Mp3 Players, codenamed BeeTune, look like they’ll be great
shuffle alternatives. These players have something very unique to a music player
- infrared, so that you can share your music with other
BeeTune Mp3 players as well as other infrared-enabled devices such as mobile
phones. Ooooh, the music industry is gonna just love that feature.
Four versions are currently scheduled for release -
each features an FM radio and voice recorder, and the memory capacities
will range from 128MB to 1GB. Initially they’ll be available in electric blue,
bright crimson red and metallic bronze, with even more colors becoming
eventually available. Yay, variety! (Source: T3

Review of Samsung E750 & E760 Phones
August 11, 2005
Mobile-Review.com has a review of the upcoming Samsung
E750 & E760 phones. These phone aren’t particularly designed for women, but
they do have a unique style which makes them worthy of mentioning, especially if
you are looking for a fashionable phone that isn’t pink, and doesn’t have to be
the Razr.
Both handsets are very similar but one of the significant differences
between the two is that the E760 has Stereo loudspeakers.
The dimensions of the handsets are 88×44x22.5 mm, and they each weigh 88.4
grams. Some of their notable features is their external oled display, a bright
inner TFT display with 262K colors, a
Mail client that supports POP3/SMTP, an integrated mp3 player, a decent 92mb of
internal memory, bluetooth, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. These phones will retail
for about $400 USD and will start shipping out in September/October.

Bush2k
August 10, 2005
Apparently a bill was passed by President Bush on
Monday that will extend daylight savings time by four
weeks, starting in 2007. According to the House Energy and Commerce committee,
the four-week extension could save the equivalent of 100,000 barrels of oil per
day in energy. Ok, that doesn’t make much sense to me… but then again I’m just
a computer nerd, not an energy nerd. What’s interesting about this news is the
effect it’ll have on gadgets. Apparently this whole scheme will screw up some
computers and electronics that aren’t able to be reprogrammed to accommodate the
time change. So what are we gonna call this thing - Y2K.B, Y2k and a half, Y2k
XP, Y2k the Next Generation, Bush 2k….
