Getting your nails done is a time honored female tradition. I myself like
getting a design painted on my nails whenever I do make the trip out to the nail
salon. Well, instead of having a design painted on your nails, what if you could
have a JPEG image of your choice painted on your nail? MeiYiMei, a company based
in China has produced a machine that outputs 4,800-dpi images directly on to
your nail or onto a salon’s press-on nails. All you have to do is stick your
hands under their inkjet printer and wallah your nails are customized to your
imagination’s specifications. Says Lemon Huang, MeiYiMei’s manager of
international trade: “Now high school girls can change their nails as easily as
switching the faceplate on their mobile phones.”
I can’t help but imagine the consequences of this machine being let loose
in the states. I can see it now,
before you know it everyone and everything from Ashton Kutcher to George
Bush will be sitting on people’s fingertips. (Source: Wired Magazine, August 2005).
