Heaven knows how many times I’ve forgotten to get the laundry out of the washer or dryer, so I can only imagine how difficult it must be for busy college students to remember to check on their laundry. This year, lucky co-eds at several dorms at the University of Louisville and Northeastern University in Boston will be able to make use of state-of-the-art washers and dryers that can be accessed via the web to see whether a machine is available or how many minutes remain in a cycle. Machines can even send an e-mail or SMS when a wash is done or a dryer opens up. Now if only they would start manufacturing these for home users, they’d already have one customer.
