According to Laptop Magazine’s January issue, T-mobile USA should be announcing its SDA smartphone which has the same specifications as the I-mate SP5m, and also looks almost identical to the I-mate SP5m. Unfortunately T-mobile’s version has an ugly hump on top. The T-mobile SDA would have the same specifications and features as Cingular’s 2125 which also sports an ugly hump, but doesn’t have Wifi. Confusing? Yes. But the point of it all is that these are excellent phones. I’ve been using the I-mate SP5m for a month, and I am pretty smitten. The 2.2 inch 320 x 240 pixel screen is spectacular for Internet browsing and watching videos. The phone even has dedicated music player buttons, external storage via a mini SD slot, EDGE, Wifi, Bluetooth, and a 200 mhz omap processor, running on the powerful Windows Mobile 5.0. Unfortunately I paid a pretty penny for it, but if T-mobile brings its own version stateside that will mean a significant price drop for its customers. According to Laptop Magazine, the phone will retail for $299 with a one year contract, which is a heck of a lot better then an average retail price of $599 for the I-mate SP5m.
