New Digital Audio & Personal Media Players from Coby

By Chip Chick

February 14th, 2006

Cobymp3players
Last month at CES 2006 we noticed these few neat MP3 players hiding behind glass in
an obscure part of Coby’s portable audio section. Coby finally has pictures and
information about these mp3 players on their site. The MP-C951 has a 20GB hard
drive and a 2 inch color TFT screen. It supports MP3, WMA and Ogg Vorbis music
files, AVI video files, Jpeg images, and it also has a built-in FM tuner and  a
voice recorder.
The MP-C352 is an unusual little player because it’s one of the only MP3 players
that have built-in stereo speakers. It also features a two color LCD, 512mb
flash memory, and voice recording.
And finally, the MP-C645 has 256mb of built-in flash memory, a 2 color OLED display, voice
recording, and a retractable USB connector.

The Desktop Media Player

By Chip Chick

February 14th, 2006

Desktopmediaplayer
We’ve seen several digital picture frames but many are disappointing because
they can’t do much past displaying photos. The Desktop Media Player is a digital
picture frame that can not only show off your photos via its built-in memory
card reader or via its DVD/VCD/CD/CD-R player – it can also playback movies and
Mp3s. The Desktop Media Player has a 7 inch antiglare screen, stereo speakers,
2.5 hours of playback time when not plugged in, and it comes with a remote. It
retails for $349.95 at FirstStreet.

The Chandelier of Insanity

2006 02 starckc 1 The Chandelier of Insanity
Currently in Manhattan there is a surplus of new luxury apartment building being
built up in just about every corner of the city. One particular development at
15 Broad street has a special project in the works, its lobby will have a
chandelier that will include multiple video screens that display "perfect
photo-op" images of building residents as they pass by. Sounds dizzying, along
with the 4 million plus price for a condo in the building. (Source: Curbed)

Rest your head on your tunes with the iPillow

By Chip Chick

February 13th, 2006

Ipillow
Many of us are guilty of falling asleep listening to our Mp3 player, which is really an unhealthy habit if you fall asleep with your earphones on. The iPillow gives you a much better alternative for resting with your music; it has 3 inch stereo speakers hiding inside its visco-elastic foam interior and plush micro-suede exterior. The iPillow also has a special pouch to hold your mp3 player, and a large rotary volume control on the side. The iPillow retails for $75.00 from Brookstone.

C6’s Industrial-Style Ipod Cases

By Chip Chick

February 13th, 2006

C6
Leather, silicon, and plastic are the materials we’re most accustomed to
having protect our Ipods. C6 Manufacturing’s Ipod cases are made from much more unusual materials –
aerospace carbon fiber and aluminum. Their cases also have a cling-on screen protector and
stainless steel screws which are used to hold the Ipod in place. The Nano case retails
for $39.95 and the Ipod case retails for $49.99.

Ipod asks, “Will You Marry Me”

By Chip Chick

Proposaliod
One of MacAddict’s readers has proved to be the ultimate geek. He proposed to
his girlfriend by having "Kathryn McCollister, Will you Marry Me?" engraved on
the back of a 4GB Ipod Nano. The Nano was accompanied with a diamond ring.
Needless to say, she said yes!

World’s Smallest Multi-Function DV

By Chip Chick

February 12th, 2006

Tinydv
The Multi-Function Mini DV at USBMall claims to be the world’s smallest DV. It records video and audio, is expandable to up to 2 gigs via a SD card slot, takes 0.3 megapixel VGA shots, has a web cam function, and 8MB of internal memory. Oooh, and it comes in a "Stylish mesh metal box in white paper sleeve." We hate to be so skeptical, but for $29.95 and with just 0.3 megapixels, we figure this isn’t going to be a high quality product.

Classy Mp3 Watch

By Chip Chick

February 12th, 2006

Classymp3watch_1
The problem with many mp3 watches is that they tend to be ugly and bulky. Here is one whose classic-looks would never let you guess it also played mp3s.  This Mp3 watch available from First Street also has a built-in voice recorder, it weighs 8 ounces, is water resistance, has a Citizen Quartz Mechanism, comes with retractable headphones, and it has a decent 10 hour battery life.  Unfortunately it only has 256MB of memory inside. The watch retails for $139.95.

Pink Flexible Keyboard

By Chip Chick

February 10th, 2006

Flex_keyboard_mini_04_1
It’s not everyday that you come across a pink mini keyboard, especially not a foldable and flexible one.  A major ebay Seller has several auctions listed where he is selling a light pink and deep pink version for a paltry Buy It Now price of $3.46 plus shipping & handling. Not sure how useful these would be, but their cheap enough to try out if you love pink.

Another Teddy Bear Mp3 Player

Teddybearmp3player_1
It isn’t the first, and it’s sure to not be the last, Akihabara News has discovered yet another Teddy Bear mp3 player. This one plays MP3 and WMA files and comes with 128mb. It will retail for $85.00 EUR (about $101 USD).

Cellfan Laptop Sticker / Cover Review

By Chip Chick

February 9th, 2006

Cellfanlaptopskin1
We’ve been posting about skins for your devices for quite sometime
now, but we had never tried one out on our own toys until Cellfan sent
us some samples. We received a Rolliing Stones Laptop skin, which I took to try out on my 15 inch Powerbook. The first time I stuck it on the cover of my Powerbook, I had to remove it and reapply it a few times
before I could fit it to my neurotic specifications. I was impressed
at how easily it peeled off without leaving any sticky residue. It
also reapplied very easily, and just as strongly as the first time I
had applied it to cover.
As far as the design of the sticker, they certainly didn’t leave any detail out -
they even have a cut out for the Apple emblem, so that you can still see it glow when the laptop is powered on.
The skin succeeded in giving my laptop a whole new look. I finally don’t feel like I have
the same Powerbook as everyone else in Starbucks – mine now has personality. Everyone who has seen it so far has commented on how “cool” my laptop looks.

The Cellfan laptop skins retail for $24.95 and are customizeable to fit many different kind of laptops.

Aside from laptop covers, Cellfan also has skins for many other
devices. We have a funky skin for a Motorola...

The USB Frog Massager

By Chip Chick

February 8th, 2006

Usbfrogmassager
Look Ma, another wacky USB powered device! The USB frog massager can be turned on and off by pushing the frogs eyes. The product page says that its "great for back, neck, shoulders, legs and arms." In case you want to see it in action, there is a demo of the frog massager at USBGeek.com. This little green guy retails for $12.00.  We have no further comments.

Swiss Army Night Vision Watch

By Chip Chick

February 8th, 2006

SwissarmynightvisionwatchThe Swiss Army Night Vision Watch isn’t very couture but since it’s a pretty unique gadget we have to mention it. The watch has a flashlight that can shine a bright beam ahead of you, which for example, could be helpful for finding your way to the bathroom at night. It also has a small red LED locator light that flashes every 10 seconds to guide you in a darkened room. At the push of a button, a soft blue light illuminates the dial; a second push activates the white LED flashlight at the front of the watch. A third push of the button activates a powerful strobe to guide others to your location. The watch is also water resistant up to 30 meters. It retails for $295.00 at Neiman Marcus & Hammacher and Schlemmer.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Multicolor Ipod Shuffle Cover

By Chip Chick

February 8th, 2006

Lvshuffle
What better day to discover that Louis Vuitton has a new ipod Shuffle cover, then on the day that Apple announced that they have dropped their prices on their Shuffles? The Ipod Shuffle Cover from Louis Vuitton is a sister to the Louis Vuitton Ipod Cover that we posted about a few weeks ago. This one is also made of a monogram multicolor canvas with peach natural calf lining and golden brass pieces. There is no price available on their site but we’re guessing that it costs about as much as a 512mb shuffle itself.

The Ultimate Game Chair

By Chip Chick

February 7th, 2006

Game_chair_large_1
The ultimate game chair is a comfy black leather chair pimped out with gadgets to enhance your gaming experience. It has joysticks mounted to its armrests, rear surround speakers positioned near the head rest and it has 12 vibration motors situated through out the chair. It also has an extra port built-in for other gaming accessories  which will help immerse you into your game. We’re not crazy about its design but the concept isn’t half-bad. The chair retails for $500.

Coby’s MPC841 USB Flash Mp3 Player

By Chip Chick

February 7th, 2006

L_mpc841_1
Coby isn’t known for producing cutting edge products, but one of their latest mp3 players is actually looking pretty slick. The MPC841 has a spiffy shiny black exterior with a LED display, a 16 hour battery life, a direct connection via a USB port, and it’s PC & Mac compatible. Oddly enough, only a 256mb version is mentioned on their site. We’re pretty sure that no one actually buys 256mb MP3 players anymore – unless their sitting in the bargain bin… which is just what might happen to this one.

SleepSmart Headband Helps You Wake Up Refreshed

By Leah Cheng

February 5th, 2006

Sleep
First, Innovative Sleep Solutions, Inc. came out with the SleepTracker
to help you wake up refreshed. However, many might find it
uncomfortable to sleep with a bulky wristwatch on, so Axon Sleep
Research Laboratories is currently working on SleepSmart. SleepSmart works essentially the same way as the SleepTracker, except that it can be worn as a soft and comfortable headband. -Leah Cheng

Vaja Cases I-Vod for Ipod Nano Case Review & Win It!

By Chip Chick

February 5th, 2006

Ivolution
The I-vod Nano case rom Vaja Cases is one of the most beautiful Ipod cases we’ve ever laid our eyes upon. We especially dig the three short stripes at the bottom of the case that we received, it succeeds in making the case look very hip. However, if the stripes aren’t your style, the case can be customized from a selection of many different solid colors. For an additional $10 you can customize the case with your name, and for an additional $30 you can customize it with your logo. The case has a very strong build, so much so that it looks like it would protect your Nano from some heavy drops and hits. The Ipod Nano also fits very firmly inside the case.
Kudos to Vaja for including a “built-in” screen protector which is often left out in many leather ipod cases. A detachable belt clip is included as well for an extra $4. Unfortunately, we do have one minor gripe with the case – they charge $6 extra for a wheel protector. To be fair, there really aren’t any leather ipod cases that we know of, that include a protector to cover the touchpad. However, from our experience with the delicate Nano – you need as much protection as possible, so don’t forget to purchase it. Other then that, we love the case’s luxurious quality and its funky style.

Felicidade Groove Handbag with Speakers for your Ipod

By Chip Chick

February 5th, 2006

Groove_bag_plus_tote_4
The Groove bag is a 1.7 pound faux-leather handbag equipped with speakers. No batteries are required for the speakers, as long as you don’t need to produce anything more then night-stand volumes. For louder volumes, four AA batteries are required. A compartment at the center of the bag allows you to showcase your Ipod or Ipod mini behind a clear plastic window. If muggers didn’t have a good enough reason to try to steal your handbag before, they certainly will now. The Groove bag retails for $199 at Dr. Bott. (Source: PC Magazine, February 21)
