There are a growing number of viable resources that are available for
women wanting to embark in a career in the Information Technology and the
Sciences field. The National Center for Women & Information Technology
(NCWIT), was created to ensure
that women’s knowledge and skills are fully represented in the
creation, development, and consumption of information technology.
NCWIT’s who’s who list is comprised of women executives and
innovators from some of the world leaders in technology (think Cisco,
Microsoft, and Apple just to name a few).
What’s even more encouraging that there are sites geared towards girls
and young women that provide info about all phases of technology; From the
internet’s creation, to explaining the difference between a router or a switch and how it functions, to discussing what a packet and a virus is. I spent a great deal of time
at the following sites, and each site provided
a wealth of information on the many facets of Information Technology and Science.
All of the sites are very interactive and intuitive and are fun and very educational! – Kevin Geter
