The great thing about mobile devices is that you’re able to keep in constant touch with friends, family and even colleagues via email or instant messaging. However, email does not offer that immediacy as does instant messaging. And most mobile devices usually have only one instant messenger program installed. Thus, giving one a very limited number of choices. Well, the latest edition of WebMessenger Mobile IM, is a great multi-service IM client for mobile devices (29.95 to $34.95 yearly subscription) and IM devotees. This handy client, available in BlackBerry, Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, and Windows Mobile 5 flavors, puts several IM services into one interface (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google, jabber, sametime and Skye). Installation and setup of the client is very simple. One can either download the app to their computer and sync it to their device, or it can be installed directly over the air via a mobile web browser. A quick registration sets up the accounts you’d like to access, and once this is done, then your messages are pulled from the server immediately
(previous versions of this client would pole the servers every 60 seconds looking for new messages), but now messages are immediately pushed to the client. Some may find the yearly fee (monthly rates are also available) as the biggest draw back to this otherwise great service. However, the fee may be a small price to pay if you juggle IM with lots of people on multiple services. – Kevin Geter
