Straight off of Japanese shores, these desk characters are cute but clever toys meant to keep you company while you work. The Solar-powered Nohonon nods his head and smiles at you, while adding some water to the Potanpoton flower pot will cause it to react even though it’s not actually a living plant. Similarly, the Flufleur blooms and lights up in reaction to sound, the FlipFlapQ moves as the sun shines on it, and the little bird Kotoridayori tweets when picked up. Desk Characters come in many different colors and they retail for $29 to $39.

Nothing keeps me smiling more through the day then my desk toys. I have a Tomy Sunshine Buddy and a just bought him a friend. I want a flipflap flower too. So kawaii!

We’ve had a Flip-Flap in the kitchen for quite some time and it’s the only plant to actually survive our terrible Black Thumbs. The Fleur Fleur is okay but battery powered and runs out too fast. We like the Flip Flap over all the choices. You can also touch the plant leaves and make them go at different paces when the sun is out.
