Calling 411 for directory assistance can be maddeningly expensive.Carriers charge more than $1 and sometimes as
much as $2 a call from a cellphone..a new service 800-411-SAVE offer directory assistance free of charge, though users have to listen to advertisements.
I tried it. Talked to a real person and even though she didn't find what i was looking for, since i dont have enough information just the last name, she was very patient and exhausted all possible means to help me.Good service indeed. Guess i should have had the first name or the address. No regrets. It's free afterall.

I like the whole free 411 and all. I just hate listening to the marketing. When I call, I am usually in need of the information quickly and to listen to ads is just so frustrating. My bill for 411 calls from my cell phone company came out to over 50 a month! A girlfriend of mine told me about a personal concierge service, Red Butler (http://www.RedButler.com). They're another great option and only 36 bucks a month. - Cindy
