“Hot Babes” have graced the covers of many gadget magazines for many years now. Stuff and T3 magazine in the U.K. and the late Sync Magazine just to name a few, use photos of gadget laden females to help sell magazines. For women like us whom are truly technology enthusiasts (AKA closet geeks) this sort of thing blatantly pisses us off. Perhaps if these magazines would have some male models sporting gadgets we wouldn’t be so peeved, but we’ve yet to see that happen. Anyway, if this whole sort of thing annoyed you until now, chances are you’re going to be pretty upset by the Nerdcore (Warning, link is Rated R) yearly calendar which is full of nude women playing consoles, handhelds, and arcades. Crazily enough, there is one aspect of this calendar that we like – it highlights cool dates like the International San Diego Comic-Con, Anime Expo, Game Developers Conference, Talk Like a Pirate Day, Tokyo Game Show, Transformers: The Movie opening day and other important events in the life of a geek. Of course, we’re sure that there are many people out there that are going to run out and buy this calendar now that we’ve told them about it, and to each their own – but what is your opinion?

hello Chip Chick ,1 i feel that people tend to use woman models to sell things more often then male models because, and im not just saying this because im a guy, but woman generally look better. with smooth looking shape and soft looking skin, and a little make up to make them shine an sparkle a little, their great for attracting a crowd, dont get me wrong male models can look good too, but in a different way, an i think (an im baseing this on personal experience) even most straight girls will agree that girls r generally more pleasant on the eyes especially in the nude in comparison to males in the nude, but this is not the base of wat im getting at either, i feel their is nothing wrong with girls appearing nude in, well honestly anything as long as the girls were all willing an of age, an the people purchasing it r of age, see these r all choices. if someone doesnt like a calender with nude girls with video game and computer appliances then they shouldnt buy it or look at it period the end, thats all their really is to it, and though i do understand where your coming from, they should prolly do a 2nd calender or something with nude males instead, though personally i wouldnt read for obvious reasons lol
it would be a little more interesting for the female populace and if that wat u want then gather more people and demand it, if its not then watever, im not gonna go on to much cause u seem to be very reasonable an not overly angry bout the nude woman, but over all the calender seems pretty amazing an as soon as i stop acting like a lazy bum an get a job i will own it HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!lol:op

I understand your argument but what I don’t see is a solution. If you want to see a calendar set up similarly but with men instead of women then make one. That’s how the Nerdcore calendar started: a bunch of geek guys who like naked women and tech. You seem to be a women who likes tech and, I’m just guessing here, naked men. I don’t see a problem with making a calendar like that, though you may have a harder time *finding models*. Fewer women have an issue posing nude than men do. That’s obstacle number one. Obstacle number two would be getting it published. Really you shouldn’t have too much of a problem doing either.

In response to the comment above about using women to sell products: it’s a proven method with measurable results. It’s simple, psychological and sociological fact that a) the subject of a work of art is easier for a person to look at given nominal sexual preferences (i.e., a man would rather look at a woman, a woman at a man) and b) that women are less adverse to looking at a work of art that contains a female subject than a man is looking at a man. Much of this has to do with societal norms and the views of sexual preferences in our society. Attempting to argue this point anymore is useless as it’s established, psychological truth given the specific set of societal norms across the US and, for the most part, the rest of the world. I’m not trying to turn this in to a fight. I’m just stating the facts.

Chip Chick, I think you really should make your own calendar. There’s no doubt in my mind that at least a few of your readers would appreciated it. Maybe even me, depending on how the characters in the pictures are depicted (if it’s man porn then no, but if it’s fairly tasteful, and I use that term lightly given the context ^_^, I might be interesteed). Take a look around DeviantArt and see if maybe there’s someone there who’d be willing to pose/take the pictures. It would be an interesting experience to say the least.
