We hate to be introducing a new product as a competitor to one of Apples, but the Mac Mini was pretty much a pioneer for small affordable “desktop” computers. HP’s new Slimline s3000y might not be quite as diminutive as the Mac Mini, but it’s glossy black exterior is also very pleasing. Under the hood the slimline s3000y features an 3.2GHz Pentium CPU, 1GB of ram, a 160GB hard drive, built-in memory card reader, a Lighscribe DVD burner and an HP Pocket Media Drive Bay, all for a not to shabby starting price of $479.99 - and that is for a configuration with the bare minimums.

That thing is HUGE! How is this an “answer” to the Mac Mini? The tiny Mac Mini sits nicely in a pile with my LaCie external hard drives. I don’t think this is going to sit nicely in a pile with anything!
