Judy’s Book Helps You Find Local Deals

July 31, 2007

rhan506l Judys Book Helps You Find Local DealsThere are a lot of great bargain finding sites on the internet, BensBargains, FatWallet, SlickDeals, and TechBargains are just addictive and are awesome resources for deals and steals. However, none of them quite excel at helping you find local deals in your neighborhood. That is where Judy’s book fills a gap in your bargain hunting. The site allows you to enter a zip code or city and it will come up with coupons and deals that apply to your area. You can also sign up for emails that will notify you of local discounts. Overall, it’s definately a good site to bookmark to add to your shopping folder.

Naptop, the Sleeping Bag for Laptops

July 31, 2007

naptops Naptop, the Sleeping Bag for LaptopsImagine a Macbook, a Sony Vaio, and a Dell XPS all lying around in sleeping bags telling stories, doing each other’s keys, and watching DVDs at their laptop slumber party. Kind of cute, eh? Naptop’s marketing slogan is that it is “the original laptop sleeping bag.” Ok kids, it’s just an laptop sleeve, but we like the clever marketing anyway. And it really is kind of like a sleeping bag - Naptops are soft and it does look like your laptop would fit snuffly in to one. Each Naptop is hand-sewn by “stay-at-home mothers” and you can have them made with a custom logo for corporate gifts. There is a nice assortment of different materials that the Naptop can be made out of including satin brocase, nylon, leather, velvet, denim, cotton and camouflage ply/nylon. Overall, there is something for every different personality. And there are also mini Naptops available which are suitable for carrying iPods and other smaller accessories. Naptops retail for $40.00.

RCA Opal, the Ugliest MP3 Player Ever?

July 30, 2007

32422435-2-300-palm-2 RCA Opal, the Ugliest MP3 Player Ever?Don’t get us wrong, we really have nothing against RCA. In the past they have made some decent looking DAPs. But their latest, the Opal is really only an MP3 player that a mother could love. The blue and white design (also available in red and white) with its fake scroll-wheel seem like it is trying too hard to be something it’s not - while being far different enough to not be accused of trying to be some other famous MP3 player. CNET reviewed the Opal and gave it a 5.6 out of 10, lamenting it for a frusterating interface but praising it for it’s slender size, 1.5″ color OLED screen and inexpensive $70 price tag. What can we say, not all MP3 players are created equal.

Microscopic Sculptures by Artist Willard Wigan

July 30, 2007

willard1 Microscopic Sculptures by Artist Willard WiganGood artwork always inspires awe in a viewer at the amount of talent that the artist had to posses to create that piece. Willard Wigan’s art inspires awe in us on an extremely tiny level. The British artist has sculpted micro-size forms using a tiny surgical blade to carve figures out of rice, fragments of grains of sand and sugar which are then mounted on pinheads. For color, he uses a hair plucked from a dead fly. Some of his work include a Malcom X figure on the head of a toothpick, a Santa Claus, Muhammad Ali, The Thinker , and Elvis Presley on a pinhead. Polly Pocket of the 90’s has got nothing on this guy. For more info on Wigan, check out his  Wikipedia entry.willard2 Microscopic Sculptures by Artist Willard Wigan

Kensington Ci Lifestyle Collection Mice Review

July 27, 2007

kensreview-003 Kensington Ci Lifestyle Collection Mice ReviewKeyboards and mice tend to not be the most stylish peripherals, but Kensington set to change that perception with its Ci Lifestyle Collection. Designed in partnership with a design firm in San Francisco, the mice and keyboards in the collection were created to not only work well but to look good too. We got a chance to work with some of these new mice, including the rouge colored Ci70le Wireless Mouse and the Ci75m Wireless Notebook Mouse that is available in black or orange and silver.

Set-Up / Installation:
The mice come with a standard USB receiver. We tried using each of them on a computer running Windows Vista, and a Mac running OS X. Both operating systems picked up the mice right away with out a hitch.

kensreview-006 Kensington Ci Lifestyle Collection Mice ReviewPerformance:
Both of the mice have excellent sensitivity and are very responsive. Inside the Ci70le and the Ci75m is a 1000 dpi performance optical sensor which shined. I was able to use the mice from as far away as 6 feet from their receivers. However at about 6 feet away from the receiver, the mice start to lose their responsiveness. Also, the scroll wheel at the top of the mice works well and does a good job of scrolling through web pages and other documents. [Read more]

Do Women Have a Worse E-mail Addiction Problem Than Men?

July 26, 2007

email0603 Do Women Have a Worse E-mail Addiction Problem Than Men?Ever hear a woman complain about how her man checks his crackberry at inappropriate times like dinner? Switched set out to settle the score with a survey and determine just who is more addicted to email - women or men. Some of the results were kind of surprising. For example, they determined that men have gone longer than women without checking their e-mail. However, other results of the survey weren’t surprising at all. For example “Women are more likely than men to send thank you notes and birthday wishes via both e-mail and regular mail (31 percent vs. 20 percent), while men are more likely to send them only via regular mail (33 percent vs. 22 percent).” - No surprise there. Hmmph.
Overall, it was a pretty close tie, but ultimately men proved to be the most addicted to email. Check out Switched for the rest of the questions and results.

Move Over Trillian, There is a New Bird in Town

July 26, 2007

pidgin Move Over Trillian, There is a New Bird in TownI’ve been using Trillian for years, but let’s face it - the app is starting to look dated. When I’m using my Mac, Adium is my multi-instant messenger client of choice. It’s got a very customizable interface, there are tons of cool plug-ins available to spruce it up with and it’s reliable and fun to use. In a perfect world, they would make Adium available for Windows to. But seeing as that is unlikely to happen, I’ve had to settle with Trillian. Sure, Trillian’s upcoming Astra looks cool as hell, but it’s taking forever for them to produce it. In the meantime I’ve discovered Pidgin, a descendant of Gaim. Pidgin is compatible with AIM, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Google Talk, Groupwise, ICQ, IRC, MSN, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, Sametime, XMPP, Yahoo!, and Zephyr. Sure, we’ve never heard of half of these, but we’re impressed anyway. But really, what truly impresses us about Pidgin is that it’s both stable and light on system resources. There are also a nice assortment of plug-ins for customizing it. And most importantly - it’s free. So, Trillian - call us when that Astra comes out.

IFO 3000 Levitating Objects for Your Desk

July 26, 2007

ifo3000 IFO 3000 Levitating Objects for Your DeskCall it magic, we’ll call it the power of magnetic fields, but the IFO 3000 can make objects float mid-air. A special microprocessor inside the IFO controls the magnetic field used to hold and balance an object so that it levitates. You can choose from a range of accessories to make float in the IFO 3000, including a color changing night light, a picture frame, a globe, a mini cooper, or a LCD Alarm Clock that also displays date and temperature. It’s killing us that they can make something like this, yet it’s been 20 years since Back to the Future was in theaters and we still don’t have hover boards. The IFO 3000 retails for £54.50, with accessories costing about £12.95.

ExpoTV Pays You For Making Video Product ReviewsSo you just bought yourself a new toy? Here is a way to make some money back on it. ExpoTelevision offers $5.00 for submitting a video review, plus $.01 for every time the video is played. So if for example you got 3,000 page views, you’d make $30. Not a lot of money, but hey that is cash in your pocket. Recently I watched a video on YouTube that was a hands on review of the new Dell XPS M1330. That video has 73,936 views and counting. Sure, ExpoTV is no YouTube yet, but as grows it is likely to gain more traffic and you’ll be likely to earn more money as a result.

InvisibleSHIELD for the iPhone Review

July 26, 2007

invsibleshield1 InvisibleSHIELD for the iPhone ReviewThe problem with iPhone cases is that they cover up the beautiful design of the iPhone. But if you don’t put a case on your iphone and you end up damaging it, you’ll never forgive yourself either. Think of the InvisibleSHIELD as a happy medium. Kind of like the emperor’s clothing, the InvisibleSHIELD is designed to protect your iPhone without covering up its lovely curves.

Initially, I was a little skeptical about using the InvisibleSHIELD on the face of the iPhone because I was worried that it would interfere with the sensitivity of the iPhone. Fortunately, it hasn’t interfered at all with the iPhone’s usability. The package included a piece that covers the face of the iPhone, and the back of the iPhone. However the piece for the back of the iPhone doesn’t wrap around far enough to cover the metal edges on the iPhone’s face. I find that a little disappointing since, since I think that the metal edges are the most delicate area on the iPhone and mine have already been getting a little scuffed up from use. The InvisibleSHIELD also claims to be scratch proof. Admittedly, I am to chicken to test that theory out on my precious, however I’ve been carrying it around for a couple of days and it has kept my iPhone safe and sound so far.

Applying the invisibleSHIELD was simple enough, though it did take concentration in order to take some effort to make sure that no air bubbles got in. A spray on solution is included with shield that makes the invisibleSHIELD movable on the iPhone’s surface, so that you can align it as perfectly as possible without much hassle. I succeeded in aligning the front and back piece of the invisibleSHIELD pretty well, minus a bubble that I couldn’t manage to get rid of on the back side. [Read more]
