Two days ago we reported about the iRecorder that made converting video files onto iPods a snap. So who knew we would now be reporting about a device called U Record which has the ability to convert LP’s and Cassette Tapes to MP3. I guess they couldn’t use “i” in the name – how sad… In any case the U Record simply connects to to your computer with a USB cable and your tape deck or record player connects to the U Record via RCA inputs. The U Record does all the hard work for you and converts your music into MP3s easily. U Record works for both Mac and PC and will automatically import songs into iTunes once the conversion is completed. The U Record retails for $49.99 and is a welcome addition to any collector of Vinyl. Now only if they made an 8 Record for 8 track tapes….oh I’m old…

It will display all your most precious moments in a unique slideshow design for example pictures can rotate in a Spiral, circulate like a Carousel, or display like a 3D Cube. The service is undoubtedly similar to Slide.com but offers more styles to choose from and more customization options. To join is free and some of the other services offered is making prints, image hosting, sharing, and photo editing. SO instead of boring your buddies with a million images of you standing in the same position on top of a mountain atleast you can make it interesting for them.

For all those Hello Kitty people out there, ebay has to your delight a Hello Kitty phone in gasp – Red and Pink! We doubt this is an officially approved Hello Kitty product. We’ve mentioned Q2 Designs previously, they are one of the rare laptop companies that let you choose the color and design of your laptop. But the scary part about buying your laptop with a design is what happens when you grow sick of it? That is why skins are the safest bet if you have a fickle brain. Target has a special Q2 Designs notebook package that comes with 3 skins – a coral, leopard and stitched skills skin. Spec wise the laptop features a 1.86ghz intel Core Duo processor, a 15.4″ widescreen, 1GB of ram, a 100GB hard drive and it comes running with Vista Home Premium. The laptop is available for $999, which is a little bit pricier than it should be.

Ever since acquiring Maxis (the original makers of the Sims Franchise), Electronic Arts (EA) has managed to create and expound on a very viable, highly addictive computer game that has achieved a cult like following; turning it into a sub culture, complete with its very own vernacular that continues to capture the hearts, minds, imaginations and in some respects transcend societal lines in terms of staying fresh in shaping the human condition that is called life. For most of us converting Movies or TV shows to put on our iPods and MP3/Video players is second nature. For others though who are new to the whole take it to go video mentality, they may not be so familiar with Handbrake, iSquint and the many assorted programs that rip and convert video files into something viewable on their device. However even if you are, myself especially I often have no time to convert large files from TV shows or Movies I want to watch and sometimes I find myself doing it over again because it doesn’t get compressed right or something happens to screw it up. Well its been shockingly a while since we posted about skins or covers for your iPods/Nanos/ etc… so it was only a matter of time till we came across something interesting again. Pimp-my-gadgets.com is another company offering funky skin protectors for your iPods, Nintendo DS Lite, and Sony PSP. Similar to that of Gelaskins. PMG also offers extremely cool designs that are different from Gelaskins and many other skins companies out there but sadly they don’t offer much selection for other gadgets like your laptop. However they do have a section on how to jailbreak your iPhone….so it’s not all bad. Every skin is £5.45 regardless of device and even though we can’t personally guarantee the quality, they claim to be scratch-resistant and for that much money it isn’t that much of a risk to try it out.

Webcams that come in feminine friendly colors and can be taken on the road – now thats different! The G- Cube webcam is a cute webcam that can clip on to any laptop screen or LCD. Its portable, small, and pretty and in case of that all important video conferencing meeting. It’s very convenient for those not blessed with built-in webcams on your laptops. Video resolution is 640 x 480, it has auto exposure control with white balance, it can rotate 180 degrees, its digital zoom is supposedly till infinity – yeh, right, and it comes with software to edit and modify images. The G-Cube Webcam retails for $22.99, so at least the price is right.

At first glance we weren’t sure what the Spracht Aura Mobile BT was. It kind of resembles a mouse, but the built in speaker threw us off. Turns out that the Aura Mobile BT actually is a bluetooth enabled product that can turn your cell phone, computer, or home phone in to a high quality conference phone on the go. It features echo and noise cancellation and promises to work without software. It’s also compatible with Skype, Yahoo messenger and most VOIP programs but it’s greatest aspect is its portability factor. After all, you never know when you’ll need to suddenly have a conference call when you’re on the go. The Spracht Aura Mobile BT retails for $129.

Back in October we told you about the competition HP and MTV had which pitted designers againist each other with the winner earning their design manufactured on a HP laptop. 85 entries were received all together from artists from around the world. Well the time has passed and a winner was chosen, Joao from Portugal won and the design was put on a special HP Pavilion dv2800t Artist Edition model.  The specs on the laptop are a decent Centrino processor and 14.1 screen. But this laptop
is all about the looks. Even though it is pretty stylish by itself, it will also come with a matching art design messenger bag. For $1,129.99 at HP’s website, it’s a decent price for a decent laptop but I doubt people will be buying it for the specs.

It looks like a cell phone, it kind of acts like a cell phone, but it’s not a cell phone. The Oasis Portable Media Player looks a lot like a slider, minus the drop down keypad. It’s got a 2 inch TFT display and the kind of stuff you’d expect to see in both a PMP and modern day cell phone – support for music files such was MP3 and WMA, five EQ modes, an FM radio, it can play movies, it has games, it has a photo browser and it even claims to play back flash files. Except that that last claim is kind of a lie, you have to first convert the SWF file to an AMV file format that we’ve never heard of. The Oasis can be found online for as little as $49 with a 2GB capacity, which isn’t too hot but at least you can expand it via Mini-SD.

Some folks prefer headphones and some prefer earbuds. For those of you who like earbuds, and have a fondness for the color pink, Sonic Impact has a special Earbuds Roxy Edition. The problem with many pink earbuds that you’ll find out there is that their quality is cheap, but these promise to produce “clearly defined lows, minds and brilliant highs, with extended bass” and its “Ear-fitting sleeve shuts out traffic and ambient noise with isolating rich, full frequency sounds”. And for $39.99 we certainly hope they do. Not that that is outrageously priced, but it’s pricey enough to expect better than average earbud quality

So the ‘Struckmaschine’ is a unique knitting machine that can make scarves with special pattens made up of space-invaders. Sound strange enough? It gets stranger. Each pattern is automatically generated by the personal information on the buyer’s credit card. This project was presented at the at the Campus 2.0 exhibition at the Ars Electronica festival. But that wasn’t the only tech’ed out knitting project that was on display. News Knitter was another project shown off at the event that collects and translates political news from RSS feeds in to a visual form on a knitted sweater.
