While DVDs are actually the latest media to be slowly making their way to extinction, some of us are still guilty of owning some other type of media that is just about completely a goner – VHS. Realistically, who has the patience to spend time transferring footage off of VHS? But every moment that you don’t you can be sure that the footage on that tape is slowly decaying. Hopefully, Ion’s new VCR 2 PC VHS-Ripping Recorder will simplify the process enough so that it won’t be such a hassle. The $200 device connects directly to your computer via USB. Just pop in a VHS tape and use the included software to rip off the footage and even turn it in to a DVD. A remote control is included as well. Sure, there are cheaper solutions but they usually involve a mess of wires and confusing instructions – and you got to bring your VCR with you. Unfortunately we’re disappointed to read that the Ion VCR 2 PC VHS-Ripping Recorder is not Mac compatible.
