I just created a New Folder and simply drag and drop my video files and did not use the Seagate Manager program, Is that okey? without using the seagate manager, it just confuses me, I just treated my new portable hard drive just like a Flash Disk which I usually drag and drop files. Anyone answer me please if it is okey. The thing is I just use this as a storage of files not for a back up. Anyway, I didn't erase the seagate manager program, instead I just created a new folder to drag and drop my files.

I've just installed a Freeagent Go 320MB but when I select "Custom backup" the Seagate Manager software only freezes my PC. However I'm able to backup through a separate program, Goodsync. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Im a professional programmer so I know something about computers.
I say this is the best external hard drive for the money, you won't need anything else. I foresee them putting 1 tb on that little thing in the near future. Its the size of a wallet, so its almost perfect, not so small that you'll lose it, neither so big that its a pain to carry it around.
No noise, no heat, and the copy speeds are really good for the price.
Don't care much for the software provided, but it'll do.
Finally, its the coolest thing attached to my computer , and that's including me :)

[...] The new Seagate FreeAgent Go hard drives are super slim and light weight ultra portable USB hard drives that pack in lots of gigs for you to store your photos, music, videos and other documents on. They even come in 10 different colors, many of which happen to blend in well with holiday colors. We’re giving a way a 320GB FreeAgent Go Hard Drive. To enter, send us in a photo of your holiday decorations. They can be interior or exterior. Is your front garden lit up with tons of lights? Do you have an awesome tree to show off? Or perhaps you have a beautiful Menorah? Snap a picture, and send us the photo and you’ll be entered to win the 320GB Seagate FreeAgent Go Hard Drive, in the color of your choice. In meanwhile, check out our review of the Seagate FreeAgent go here. [...]

Both 500 gig drives w/ docs arrived and they do look sharp. the docking station uses 2 USB ports which is a bit surprising. And a bit of a port hog if u are using 2 of these drives along with a USB mouse and a USB keyboard for my notebook. However, the length of the cables for the doc stations are considerably longer than the cable that comes w/ the drive. And it does help keep the desktop clean. If not using docs, then the drive uses just one port. Interesting that the doc comes w/ a leather sleave for the drive. But u dont get a sleave if u just buy the drive.

Running this on Vista with UAC turned on. When the seagate drive mgr is installed, Vista/TheInstaller acted a bit peculiar. But not too troublesome. When first launched, the seagate mgr went out to the net to check for updates, but gave not status as to what it was doing. The drive lite stayed on while i suspect an update was being installed. Once that was done and the drives were dropped into the docs, the mgr software had no problems. Set up a backup schedule w/ specific folders and times and off it went. Very simpe.

I'd like the backup software be configurable to pickup files changed/new since the last backup, but have not see that option. Does not look like the sync option works that way. Not interested in syncing, just picking up more recent mods.

Very nice look, easy to install, and decent price.

Thanks for the review. I was just in the market for external drives and found these sharp looking drives on seagate.com and on amazon. was looking for some real world use. I went ahead and bought two 500gig drives. Relying on one external drive can be sketchy. I learned that last year. So i'm going to cycle backups to both drives along with some day-of-the-week zip routines. These drives better support Vista ;) thanks again for the review.

Sounds like the best course of action is to simply format the drive upon purchase, so you do not become dependent on software that you cannot reproduce.

Finally Seagate has put out some higher capacity 2.5" drives. When the 500GB gets into the $130-175 price range, it'll be a good value.
