The Shocking Thumbwars is a 3 in 1 party game that will entertain and throb for hours. The game is pretty simple, you need to beat your opponent in 3 challenges where the loser obviously will get some nasty shocks. 50/50 is a game that you need to tap the button 50 times before your opponent does, Rebound, a air-hockey style game that involves hitting a light sequence back and forth, lastly Endurance, experience shocks that increase gradually. Any way you cut it, you will be shaking your thumb in pain. For £14.95 it’s not that expensive if you are into that kind of thing.

Wall Street Coffin - The Final Resting Place of Your Money
October 29, 2008
We all know that Wall Street right now is giving us one hell of a ride but according to some it may already be dead along with Lehman Brothers. Being the entrepreneurs that set us apart from the rest of the world, it would only make sense for someone to cash in on something depressing. SO we present Wall Street Coffin, a miniature coffin with a engraved plaque indicating the death of Wall Street. Whether it be ‘R.I.P. Bear Sterns’ or ‘R.I.P. Washington Mutual’, you have a choice of 5 plaques to put on the coffin or you can have a custom one designed with a maximum of 20 characters. The miniature coffin is 6 1/2″ long x 2 1/4″ high x 2 1/4″ wide and the interior has black velvet and real shredded currency. For $34.95 you can own your very own desktop coffin and if you work in an investment bank or firm, probably not the best thing to put in your cube.

October 27, 2008
The Imod Scooter is one of Razor’s latest and perhaps it’s coolest electric scooter yet. For starters, it’s designed to look a lot like a Vespa - you know those European style scooters. Albeit not as fast, the Imod can travel up to 15mph per charge for at-least 10 miles at a time. But as if we weren’t impressed already, the Imod also comes equipped with two full range speakers, an iPod docking station, and an FM stereo. Also very neat is the seat which can be lifted to double as a storage compartment. The Imod Scooter retails for $299 and is a Toys R Us exclusive.
Star Trek Experience to Reopen in Downtown Las Vegas
October 27, 2008
When we sat down to read Geek Monthly this weekend, we were pretty saddened to discover that the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas has closed down. We have fond memories of whisking ourseleves away from CES to hang out at an even nerdier place than the floors of CES. The Star Trek Experience was a safe haven for trekkers - a place where those who couldn’t tell Ferengis from Romulans were the uncool folks. Anyway, turns out that our disappointment doesn’t have to last that long - rumor has it that the Star Trek Experience is going to reopened in downtown Las Vegas. There are no definitive details yet - will it be a new Experience or just a move of the old one - we don’t know, but either way we’re happy that Trekkers will still have a place where everyone knows your name. Z Corp Brings your Rock Band Characters to Life with 3D Printers
October 26, 2008
I’m not one to get excited about printers unless they are super sleek and actually do something different than the scads of other printers out there. Well Z Corp is making printers that don’t do the same old thing as its counterparts but instead they actually print 3D models of images that are scanned into the machine. Z Corps printers utilizes 2 inkjet printer heads, one that sprays on the color, the other that sprays a fluid that holds the mold together. So how would you use a machine like this you ask? Well to bring your favorite computer game avatars to life of course! Figureprints which specializes in World of Warcraft figures, has bought several of these machines to make all your wizards and other oddities of WOW, companions out of the computer. Rock Band also recently signed a deal with Z Corp so that players can upload images of their Rock Band avatars or what is called Bandmates, and have a 6″ figure of your character sent to you. Plaster dust is the foundation of the 3D printer mold and layer by layer the magic happens to bring your video game avatar to life. The printer is huge and unless you are making a business out of 3D figures, it isn’t really meant for home use. (Source: Game Informer, November ‘08) [Read more]
Screen Shades is Perfect for Laptop Privacy with a bit of an Antique look
October 26, 2008
Using a privacy filter to block prying eyes has its pros and cons. One major con is that it may block people from seeing your work but on the otherhand it could strain your eyes as well make the screen dimmer, making it harder for you to see. So how do you resolve this problem? Well the folks at Camera Bellows created what is called Screen Shades. Sort of reminiscent of what old cameras looked like in the 1800’s. The flexible guards can go on digital cameras, laptops, and LCD screens. It may seem strange when you put this rather large shade on your screen but it will keep snoops away and won’t strain your eyes. Made for 11″ to 17″ laptop screen sizes including Macbooks. Screens for the laptop cost about $109.95 and shades for digital camera cost $29.95.
Jill-E Fashion Camera Bags for Trendy Paparazzi
October 26, 2008
Lugging around tons of camera equipment doesn’t mean you can’t drag it around in style and jill-e has fashion camera bags that fit just about any size of camera you may have. Besides having trendy looking bags they are also durable and a good number of them are waterproof. The larger camera bags actually multitask to hold cameras with extra lenses and also personal accessories. Jill-e offers a selection of rolling bags and combo rolling bags that have two bags attached, a large and medium to schlep camera equipment around or whatever else you need. The best part is they come in a variety of colors. The prices are a bit high for the larger bags coming in at $299.99 but the pouches and camera clutches are reasonable at $24.99 and 34.99.
Shame on you PC.com for Celebrity Techover
October 24, 2008
PC.com is a new web site aimed at helping ordinary folks learn about computers. Sounds good so far, right? They also have a bunch of online video shows. The most distasteful of which is - Celebrity Techover where already wealthy celebrities get expensive technology makeovers. For example - poor Josh Duhamel doesn’t have the home theater he’d like to have. And then there is Tori and Dean who cant get wifi out in their backyard - oh, and their kids like to watch TV but their LCD TV in the kitchen is kind of small (it looks to be only about 26 to 30 inches). As if celebrities don’t already get bags and bags of free stuff, now they can get expensive technology makeovers too.
We have big issues about this show - from concept to execution. Regarding the latter, the show doesn’t delve deeply enough in to what went into the makeover process - the set up, installation and the specs in the items that were featured in the makeover. And for a show about tech, they should be getting in to at least the surface details. I’m not saying that they have to mention how many USB ports come with that new Samsung UMPC they gave Josh Duhamel to use by his pool, but they should be mentioning some of its feature highlights.
Now as for the whole concept. We are so sick of celebrities getting free stuff. Aren’t the wealthy people the ones who are supposed to be driving the economy by purchasing expensive products - instead of sitting on their money and paying for nothing? Ok, but we are realists and we know that celebrities will be forever getting too much unnecessary freebies.
The fact is that we want to see a show where needy people get technological makeovers. We want to see a “techover” show for ordinary people who really would appreciate it. How many families can’t afford computers or internet in their home? Just giving a $400 EeePC to some impoverished kid would make so much more of a difference in his life and his families’ life, then it does for Josh Duhamell to get a free HD projector and a media center PC that he doesn’t quite understand.
Or how about the elderly woman who is confused about the dTV transition? How about getting her a new HDTV and setting her all up - explain to her about the transition and what to do so that other people can learn from it too.
Or maybe there is another elderly person whose vision is going and her old 13″ telly just isn’t cutting it anymore. Or how about contributing a home theater center to a community center instead of to Josh and Fergie? The possibilities to use technology to change people’s lives here are endless. It’s not that often that something makes us this upset, but we cant help but feel what a waste this show is - and what potential it could have been.
The iBone Because Dogs Need an iPhone Too
October 24, 2008
You know man’s best friend is the dog, so wouldn’t they want an iPhone too? Obviously theirs may lack a touch screen but the plush version certainly is adorable. The iBone looks similar in design to the iPhone but its a bit softer to chew. From the looks of the applications, Fido has several options like calling the hottie poodle next door or updating their petspace page profile. For only $14 you and your pup can be super cool and trendy and really thats what it’s all about.
