My wife received the GE DECT 6.0 Photophone as a Christmas gift. The picture display went out within 2 months. The company said that a replacement was not available. They offered a cash refund of about half the original cost because we did not have a receipt. The one year warranty or the photophone is not worth much.

Bought one for my wife as a gift. You are right that the handset is cheap. Very poor voice quality. But we kept it because we like the photo caller id. But even that part lasted less than a year. Now it's dead after on 10 months.
