I have had slingshot for about 6 months. They do not offer very good technical support and some of the equipment does not work without additional software being emailed to you, which takes an act of congress to obtain. When there is a problem, they do not promptly return calls, have odd hours of operation and do not respond to emails. Also slingshot does not offer 3g in many communities and is worse than dial up when 3g is not available. When it is working at 3g speeds, I would call it merely OK, but not great.

That's unfortunate, disappointing, and lame for those who have purchased their service...I'm sorry to hear that.

Wow that seems like a really good price, I am curious to find out more information about them though, do you have to activate for a whole month at a time? or can you just use it for a couple weeks and pay less? I looked at their website and it didn't really have any place that actually went into detail about it. I have been using WifiRents.com when I have needed internet access for short 1 or 2 week periods and I just send the equipment back when I'm done. I think in the meantime I will stick to WifiRents.com and I will wait a little longer and see what comes out of this Slingshot site.

I have the Cricket version which is fine for a PC in a home where they have coverage. But for a traveling laptop, you may be better of with something else, like "Sling Shot". Towns where I have not had coverage so far are Boise, Salt Lake, Fort Worth, Anaheim, , Albuquerque, and a few other large cities. Now some of these cities listed I did have Cricket cell phone service, but no modem service. . I was told I would have modem coverage any where my cell phone worked when I purchased the two. BTW, after trying them all, the best cell phone coverage for someone traveling around the country is the pay as you go "Tracfone". Don't know why, it just is. Patch

That's really a shame. I think it would go a long way for them to publish some response to customers or potential customers. Are they still in business? If so, with an appropriate explanation, they can still get customers, however, at this point in time, it's difficult to recommend them. I contacted them directly several times but to no avail.

If anyone has had direct experience with them, good or bad, please share your review at the following site. I'd really like to see them succeed as competition/options is always good.

Yes, Slingshot is going through growing pains, or maybe not be successfully dealing with the economic situation. They advertise different price levels per month but refuse to sell the cheaper monthly refills. I suspect that they may not succeed despite an excellent product. Truth in advertising and competent customer support is needed as well. Let the prospective purchaser beware.

You could also consider renting an aircard. I work with RovAir (<a href="www.rovair.com" rel="nofollow">www.rovair.com</a>). We will mail you an aircard when you need it and and you simply return it when done. There are no contracts involved and no large up front fees. They also have a service called RovAir On-Demand. With this service you simply call them and have them activate your wireless card (which can be purchased on eBay these days for next to nothing)

Cricket Wireless also offers the same technology without any contracts and it costs less. You can get unlimited use for only $40 per month + the device is only $59 with a web discount. Check it out www.mycricket.com!

I couldn't agree with you more; it's long overdue here! There are a small handful of providers that prospective customers should check out, including, but not limited to Slingshot. You can check them out here:
