HoMedics Restore Water Purification Uses UV Light to Kill Bacteria

restoreJug 300x263 HoMedics Restore Water Purification Uses UV Light to Kill BacteriaHoMedics has turned water filtration on its ear today with the release of the Restore, a complete water purification system in a pitcher. Restore will provide cleaner and supposedly better tasting tap water by utilizing germ-killing Ultraviolet (UV) Clean Technology to remove bacteria and viruses with a filtration system to reduce metals, chlorine (taste and odor), and other pollutants. Restore’s UV Clean Technology utilizes UV light in the C spectrum to kill most of this bacteria. Geez…I’m not sure what kind of water HoMedics thinks we are drinking…Its sounds like its from the street or toilet bowl with all this bacteria it plans on killing with the UV light.  The Restore will retail for $99.99 for the pitcher and $7.99 per replaceable filter and be available at Amazon and other online retailers.

The UV technology makes sense when its used in a third world country or disaster relief situation – or as something one might carry that can make water from a stream safe. But the irony of this product is that if we ever come to a point that we’re drinking contaminated water, it will probably not be from a pretty pitcher and we probably won’t have electricity to plug it in when it comes to that!

Started googling water issues in the United States… a capsule from one page:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_supply_and_sanitation_in_the_United_States#Pollution

[[In its Infrastructure Report Card the American Society of Civil Engineers gave both the U.S. drinking water and wastewater infrastructure a grade of D- in 2005, down from D in 2001. According to the report, "the nation's drinking water system faces a staggering public investment need to replace aging facilities, comply with safe drinking water regulations and meet future needs."]]

I think most people inherently understand the process by which water finally gets into our homes (old pipes, pollution/contaminants, ground water issues, etc.). Never mind vacationing in other developed (non-third world) countries south of the border and beyond. Sadly… given how we treat the ecosystem, I suspect we’ll see many more products such as these.
