Samsung is busy not only making cellphones, but also conducting surveys on how cellphone use and texting effects society. Yesterday they announced the results of a local survey which revealed that 83 percent of New York cell phone users text just about anywhere. “4.1 billion text messages are sent everyday and many New York residents surveyed admit they have texted while on public transportation (69%), at the doctor’s office (54%), at the movies (36%), at concerts or plays (29%), as well as in places some would consider to be taboo, such as at the dinner table (39%), on dates (22%), and in a house of worship (9%)” Besides texting, New Yorkers also feel that texting is a lot less stressful and consider it the new form of email. I guess anything that helps keep New Yorkers stress level at a minimum, is helpful.

NYC Gadget Lover
i’m not surprised. i was reading something on another site where there was a gadget blogger meetup and the author finally felt comfortable among her fellow bloggers putting her blackberry on the dinner table and checking her email. and i thought to myself- is that really considered taboo elsewhere? i would think nothing of it.
i bet the public transportation # would be higher if there was service in the subways.
