Just recently Apple released their Find My iPhone app, and today BlackBerry has announced their new BlackBerry Protect app that serves a similar purpose for the BlackBerry. The app lets you see your BlackBerry’s location for times when you lose your phone – or it gets stolen, it will help find a nearby misplaced BlackBerry by remotely activating a loud ringer, it can remotely add contact information to the home screen of a locked BlackBerry smartphone so that it can easily be returned if found (without someone going through your data), and finally, it can also remotely wipe or lock your BlackBerry. Along those lines, it will also let uses backup their BlackBerry data over Wifi and restore the data onto a new BlackBerry. BlackBerry Protect is currently in limited Beta. If you ask us, BlackBerry Protect certainly has a few great features over the comparable Find my iPhone app. In any case, it’s going to get a lot harder for crooks to steal our gadgets.
