According to research by Dolby Laboratories, a shift is happening in how Americans prefer to experience entertainment, with approximately 60% of surveyed college students now using their PCs, and not televisions, most for entertainment. First of all, I’d like to say thank you for your contests.

I’ve used my share of laptops for my music production, and being in college
I have to load a lot of different programs on my laptop which makes it
really slow. Once you use up so much memory, basic performance such as
Internet browsing and uploading and downloading files really suffers.

With this Lenovo IdeaPad Z560, I’m not having that problem. It’s lasted a
whole semester worth of schoolwork and still performs at the same speed it
did when I took it out of the box. Also, a lot of my music software has
slowed down my laptops in the past, and I haven’t had that issue yet either.
I’m loving the Dolby digital sound performance and just the overall look of
the IdeaPad. It’s not too big, and still portable enough to just slip in my
book bag and carry around all day.

As I mentioned, I work with music a lot in my free time and I’m always
mixing and mastering my own tracks. The speakers being mounted on top
instead of somewhere in front or to the side makes it easy to hear all the
highs, mids, and lows while not having to put my ears to the speakers. It’s
a fuller, more natural sound that almost makes you forget you don’t have any
external speakers plugged in. That makes it easy to work in a lab on campus
between classes where I wouldn’t have access to my speakers.

The HD display is something I didn’t think I needed until I actually turned
up the brightness and started doing my album cover editing. Looking back on
the covers I’d designed on my old laptop, I noticed that they weren’t really
that good or very clear. Presentation is very important to me, and this
Lenovo IdeaPad has made photo editing (both online and with Photoshop)
faster and more clear.

The only con I can think of is the raised keys, which I’m not a huge fan of
because of the dust that has built up under them. Besides that, this is one
of the best laptops I’ve used and is certainly better than any I’ve ever
owned. My music certainly sounds better now and when my music sounds good,
I’m a happy camper. Thanks for the amazing product and I look forward to
more in the future.

    Having audio on my PC is important to me because I love to listen to music while I work. But what’s the point if it sounds like it’s coming out of a tin can. This won’t happen with Dolby sound.

    I would give this to my husband! He is totally into music, and having the ability to store and listen to music with a system that has realistic sound would be phenomenal. He has been slowly digitizing all his vinyl – 1000s of LPs. He has ‘his’ music from the 70′s when he was a teen , and it would be nice for him to be able to listen to it on the go and store it in one place! He would appreciate how the frequency would enhance his experience- and likely at first give himself headaches ‘headbanging’ to the oldies LOL

    There is nothing worse than having tinny audio from your laptop. I use a laptop for everything including work so any videos, webex or anything else requiring audio makes it a must to be decent. Plus who like to watch youtube during your webinar’s with crappy audio. Dolby FTW.

    For the past 7 years I’ve been working at home as an “outsourced worker” in Canada! making calls. With no audio I could not do the job.
    BTW, a funny thing happened to me yesterday. My laptop finally died so I had to switch to using a netbook. The sound was terrible. I thought that must be a drawback to using the netbook. I could barely do the job.
    But yesterday I clicked on an icon at the bottom to see what it was, and it is
    for sound. There are various choices.
    It was set at “sewer pipe”. I thought that was the “skin” or look of
    it. I changed to other looks to see what they looked like but they
    looked the same. Somehow I figured out that was for the sound
    quality. I tried “auditorium” and it was even worse. So it put it to
    “none” and the sound is fine! I had been listening to all my calls as
    though they were in a sewer pipe!
    What a dumb thing to have. Who would ever use that?
    I thought because netbooks are smaller and cheaper that they just had
    crappy sound.

Nothing beats getting an adrenaline rush from really good audio that makes you lose yourself into whatever you’re watching. It would also make gaming a lot more fun.     As I am watching more movies and television online I have come to learn audio is key. My desktop audio on my computer is sad. Watching any scifi or action movie is painful as I miss the feeling of the sound effects.

    I also have a friend that does a lot of DJ-ing and makes electronic music in another state. Sometimes he digitally sends me some of his work to appreciate/critique etc. I get the feeling that the Dolby Advanced Audio would really allow me to listen to his work more the way it was meant to be heard.

    About to start my MBA in san francisco, I was looking to buy a laptop and the lenovo Ideapad was one of the finalist. It would be a true “the stars magically aligned” situation if I were to win, as the cost of the program and the relocation to the SF is quite expensive.

    Audio is what makes our computers come alive. Most of us use our laptops to watch movies or listen to music and I find the speakers just don’t have the sound quality necessary for complete enjoyment. More important to me is that I have good speaker quality for use on Skype. I speak to my family in England every day and a good picture isn’t much good without good audio quality, its very frustrating when the sound distorts and we often end up “talking” via chat messaging which isn’t the same as hearing their voices.
