Hands-on with the T-Mobile LG G2x and G-Slate

T-Mobile has finally launched their brand new 4G devices, the G-Slate Android Honeycomb Tablet by LG and the T-Mobile G2x Android Smartphone. We must say, this new T-Mobile G-Series is an impressive little lineup.

The launch event in New York City was surrounded with TV’s mirroring the screens of the G-Slate and G2x via HDMI. The G-Slate was streaming live 3D video while people were playing 1080p video games on 42″ TVs straight off of the G2x phone.

The G-Slate Android HoneyComb Tablet, by LG, will be the second Honeycomb tablet to hit the market. Straight off the bat, we noticed it has a much better feel than its Motorola Xoom competitor; it’s lighter and has a more convenient shape. The 8.9 inch tablet runs a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and features a 3D camera (two side-by-side cameras) on the back. it comes with one pair of 3D glasses, but don’t get too excited, they’re the traditional red and blue type–but hey, more glasses will cost you under $20. On the bright side, you can stream real 3D to your 3D TV, otherwise you can stream the red/blue type to any other HDTV via an HDMI cable. The G-Slate also has a front camera, but no 3D on the front.

The G2x Android 2.2 Smartphone also had a really nice feel to it. The 2GHz dual-core 4G Android phone isn’t quite as large as all of the other new Android phones like the HTC Thunderbolt , Inspire, and Evo. We dug the form factor of G2x, it had a very large screen without turning it into an overwhelming device. It features an 800×480 4″ screen, an 8 megapixel camera back camera and a 1.3 megapixel front camera. Plus it integrates DTS audio technology, which really improves the sound quality and volume. The DTS will even output to your TV or Stereo over HDMI.

It was pretty impressive to see how flawlessly both of these devices were able to mirror their screens in full 1080p onto such large HDTVs. We had a fun time gaming, we just weren’t sure which screen to look at while playing. We’re hoping to get some alone time with these devices in the near future, so stay tuned! The G-Slate 4G Android Tablet by LG is currently available from T-Mobile and starts at $529.99 with contract. The T-Mobile G2x with Google is available from T-Mobile for $199.99 with contract.
