This week Nokia celebrated a milestone in terms of their handset production when they crossed over the 500 millionth mark. The handsets themselves are being produced out of their manufacturing plant in Chennai, India, but they are of-course being shipped to countries around the world. 500 million is a massive number when you consider that that is nearly 12th of the world’s current population.
But aside for Nokia, this is especially great news for India, since it shows the progress in India when it comes the development of their electronics manufacturing industry.
We have created a unique record across the world. This is not only a proud moment for us at Nokia, but a major highlight in India’s young and rising electronics manufacturing industry,” said Prakash Katama, director, Chennai factory operations, Nokia India.
Nokia’s presence in Chennai now includes a workforce of over 8,000 employees. The company is celebrating by giving all of their employees in Chennai a Nokia C3-00 handset. Top top it all off, Nokia is also having their Brand ambassador and bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan sign a Nokia C3 phone to be auctioned off to customers through Nokia’s web site.
