Samsung and Gameloft Woo The Casual Gamer with New Smart TV Apps

Get ready to watch your muffin top get even bigger if your have a Samsung Smart TV… Gameloft and Samsung have collaborated to offer a catalog of 6 games with graphics rendered in 3D. Currently Brain Challenge and TV Show King (which was just released) are currently available as games on the Smart TV but in addition to those, Smart TV owners via the Samsung App will get to play UNO, Lets Golf! 2, Block Breaker Deluxe 2, and Midnight Pool. These aren’t the best games in my opinion, but they are certainly a time waster if you get bored while waiting for Game of Thrones to come on or Celebrity Apprentice. If anything, I’m most excited about UNO. Atleast now I don’t have to keep remembering where I put the cards or if I lost any.

“We’re thrilled to extend our library of games to the mass market through Samsung Smart TV. All homes equipped with a Smart TV will be able to access high-quality games with 3D graphics at an affordable price.” said Gonzague de Vallois, Senior Vice-President of Publishing at Gameloft.

“Integrating games such as Let’s Golf! 2, UNO and TV Show King will allow us to continue to diversify the applications we offer on Samsung Apps,” said Kang-Hyun Kwon, Senior Vice President of Media Solution Center at Samsung Electronics.

As more and more gaming apps come to the Samsung Smart TV and other Smart TV’s in general, it will be interesting to see if casual gamers actually deviate away from using their traditional consoles. It will certainly depend on the quality of the app for the Smart TV, but are we seeing the beginning of the end of traditional consoles for the casual gamer? Many of them are already playing games mostly on tablets and smartphones. Only time will tell and it will depend heavily if the Smart TV becomes adapted by more homes as years go by.
