Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon The 3D IMAX Experience Review

Well, it’s yet another chapter of the Autobots versus the evil Decepticons for the fate of Earth as we know it in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg, Dark of the Moon is the third movie of the Transformers series, which is of course based on Hasbro’s Transformers Action Figures.

All of your favorite Autobots are back: Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide, Sideswipe, and the leader Optimus Prime. They’ve been protectors of the human race and have been aiding the US in keeping peace…that is, until the Autobots return. When both the Autobots and Decepticons discover what’s hidden in the dark side of the moon, chaos breaks out in an even more intense battle than we’ve seen. You’ll meet some new characters too, including a new villain, Shockwave.

Pretty much the entire cast is back with one exception: bad girl Megan Fox. She was replaced by the very beautiful Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Fox was hardly missed. There’s a quick mention in the movie that her character dumped Shia LeBeouf’s character,  Sam Witwicky…and some how he pulls off this new ‘fox’ of a girlfriend. It did not seem like the plot changed much for the role replacement.

There are also a few special guests that we were glad to see, most notably Buzz Aldrin, one of the first men to walk on the moon. Other new actors include John Malkovich, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Frances McDormand, and even a brief appearance by Bill O’Reilly.

This 157 minute film is jam packed with theater-shaking effects. Everything looked awesome and sounded awesome. The effects really make you realize how far CGI has come. The 3D was neat if you generally enjoy 3D, but really not essential. You get a lot more out of the movie with the IMAX Experience, which gives you a larger screen and enhanced audio you can really feel. So if you got the extra bucks – we highly suggest the splurge. Since the effects here are really the stars of the movie…and not so much the actors.  The plot is rather basic and it gets drawn out towards the end and is pretty similar to the second film. If you are looking for a movie that will give you a rock em’ and sock em’ good time, then Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon is the movie for you and will undoubtedly be the box office champ his holiday weekend.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon the 3D IMAX Experience hits theaters June 29th in the US and is rated PG-13.

  1. BEST FILM OF THE YEAR (so far)! but only watch at an imax as it was clearly made for imax! PRRRIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!

  2. A big Transformers fan!
CGI was great, action was good, story was a big let down and ruined the movie.
Drawn out half of the movie and ending with megatron quick death? Some things don’t match and to many storys in this series… What happened to the cube was why they were there? Didn’t they fly back to cybatron in the 2nd movie? So why do they need to bring it to earth? I guess the don’t like commuting to work.
New chick was hot but sorry it needed that fox! Seriously the writers must be related to bay or spillburg the story line sucked!
