Sony’s VAIO Z series has always been quite the looker, but this latest generation of the Z series really brings sexy back. But the revamped 13″ ultraportable isn’t just about looks, under the hood the new VAIO Z series sports dual solid state drives in a Raid array for a super quick boot up time – all in a sleek aluminum and carbon fiber chassis body that measures .66 inches thick and weighs just 2.5 pounds. Yep, the latest Z series is lighter than ever. And it will be available in a choice of three colors – carbon black, carbon indigo, or a premium carbon black.
Under the hood the system is running on Core i5 and i7 processors. The Z series is also sporting an LED backlit display which is available in a choice of 1920 x 1080, or 1600 x 900 resolutions – which are both very high resolution options for a 13 incher. The display also features an anti-glare coating for less light reflection, and deeper, more richer colors. Other technologies featured in the Z series include Intel Wireless Display technology, and three capacitive touch buttons.
The Z series also boats an impressive 8 hour battery life. Plus, you can also choose to throw on its large sheet battery which will bring battery life to 16 hours. Other options includes mobile broadband with AT&T or Sprint.
The new Sony VAIO Z series will retail for about two grand and it goes on pre-sale today. It’s just a shame that Sony didn’t price the system more aggressively to compete with the MacBook Air, but the system undoubtedly goes head on with the Air and Samsung 9 series in terms of looks.
