Windows Phone 7 App of the Week: ESRB Rating App Tells You What Your Kids Are Playing

Untitled 2 Windows Phone 7 App of the Week: ESRB Rating App Tells You What Your Kids Are Playing

This is probably one app your kids don’t want you to install on your device. The ESRB app is a pretty simple one – type in the name of the game, or take a picture of the cover, and get rating information from the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board). For the uninitiated, the ESRB rates games in a similar way to how the MPAA hands out movie ratings – G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17. But wait, doesn’t the box art feature the rating clearly on the cover? Well, yes, but this app does a little more than just tell you what the game is rated. You can access the specific reasoning for why the rating was assigned, as well as specific examples from the game supporting those reasons. It’s a great educational app for parents who might be unfamiliar with the video game world. So, before you buy the next video game for your kid for Christmas, make sure it’s something you’re alright with first – otherwise, it’s buyer beware.
