iPad App of the Week: Speed Reading For the Kids – the Cars 2 Read and Race App

In tandem with the Pixar release of Cars 2 this summer comes the Cars 2 Read and Race App, a reading app for young ones just learning how to read. Of course, the app takes full advantage of being on the iPad, and not on a book – there’s narration, sound effects, music, and scores of little mini-games for the kids to play while they are reading along. Progress is also highlighted as the kids go through the story with Lightning McQueen and the other cars from the movie. The app holds true to being edu-tainment – kids can pick their favorite races at different points throughout the story, and race with them on a couple of racetracks from the movie once the story is completed.

The 1.1 update brings support for six different languages – English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Swedish, as well as the previously mentioned highlighted read-along text. The Cars 2 Read and Race App is available from the iTunes App Store for $6.99, and the 1.1 update has gone live. It’s pretty much a guaranteed hit if you have kids, so check it out if you need something to keep the little guys or gals busy this summer!
