Dog Tags Go Hi-Tech With Lost & Found QR Codes

There’s not much worse than the prospect of losing your best friend. But, dog tags can only carry so much information, and if your precious four-legged friend gets away from you, whoever finds her/him might not be able to get your pet back to you. Fortunately, technology is here to save the day (again).

Platinum Pets has rolled out their Lost and Found pet ID tag system, and it works with any smartphone that has a barcode scanner. The dog tag itself is a small, round disc that sports a barcode specific to your pet. Once you get that barcode, you can enter in your full contact information, as well as your pet’s name and birthday. If you really want to make sure Fido is taken care of, you can also enter any health conditions your pet has, as well as veterinary and insurance information and an optional reward. You can even upload a photo of your pet, just to make sure there’s absolutely no confusion.

If the unfortunate day comes when Spot runs off, whoever finds him will be able to use their smartphone to scan the barcode on the tag. They’ll instantly have access to all of that information, to make sure your buddy gets returned to you safe and sound. Of course, there are some privacy concerns with putting your contact information out there, but it’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing that your family’s furriest member is that much safer.

On top of that, there’s no subscription fee. Each tag costs about $10 on Amazon right now, and that’s all you’ll be paying. You can use the tag for as long as you like and never need to pay another cent after that initial $10. For something that makes it this easy to reconnect pet and owner, it almost seems to good to be true. But, it is true, so if you’re a dedicated dog lover, you’ll definitely want to grab one of these High-Tech dog tags for your furry friend.
