If you want the bleeding edge, you don’t need to read any further, but if you’re looking for an affordable entry model into the world of tablets, take a look at the Impression 7, from Leader International. It doesn’t have the guts of the industry leaders, but the $179.00 price point looks attractive, especially considering that at its core, it can handle just about everything any other tablet can.
The I7 is a 7” tablet that runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo). The screen is capable of 800×480 resolution. The I7 runs on a 1 GHz processor, and has 512 MB of RAM. Storage is handled by 4 GB flash memory, with an SD card slot that supports up to 16 GB SD cards. A 0.3 MP camera and two USB ports round out the extra features.
It’s no iPad or Galaxy Tab, but the I7 and its more expensive cousin, the 10” I10 ($349.00), will feed your need for media consumption in the home. There’s isn’t much in the way of high-end features like HD playback or a dual camera, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to get started on tablet computing, you could do a lot worse. As of right now the Impression 7″ and 10″ won’t be hitting retailers till November and one of them just happens to be big box retailer Kmart.
