We’re already quite fond of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 series, and think that it’s quite a handsome phone. But if you’re looking to take your BlackBerry experience to the next level, check out the new Porsche Design P’9981. This smartphone stems from a partnership between RIM and Porsche Design, and the result is a luxury smartphone that looks a whole lot cooler than most of the messaging phones we’re used to seeing.
Under the hood the specs are almost identical to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 series, with a 1.2GHz processor, BlackBerry OS 7, a 5MP camera with 720P video recording, built-in NFC, and Liquid Graphics technology. But the outside the device is sporting a wicket stainless steel frame that has been hand-wrapped in a leather black cover, and complimented by a sculpted keyboard. The device will also ship with a special Porsche Design user interface. To top it all off, the P’9981 is touting a special feature which gives the device an exclusive PIN – “Ensure your prestige is instantly recognized with a limited edition PIN series, available only with the Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry. Clearly identifiable, the exclusive PIN series will ensure you stand out from the crowd.”
The Porsche Design P’9981 will be available later this year at Porsche Design stores. According to Engadget and MobileSyrup, pricing is expected to be around $2,000 and they’re will be a limited quantity available. But Considering how much Vertu phones go for, 2 grand for a Porsche Design phone doesn’t seem all that outrageous.
