The Polaroid Z340 Instant Digital Camera, crafted under the watchful eye of Polaroid Creative Director Lady Gaga, is finally ready to bring back instant photography. The Z340, originally conceived as the GL30, looks a little less retro than the original design. The original design had a more industrial, ’80s-style vibe, with metallic silver dominating. The finished product goes for a more modern, dark grey approach.
This isn’t strictly a throwback to the Polaroid days of old. This is a digital camera, first and foremost, but instant printing is the big selling point. Now, you can choose to not waste film when someone blinks by checking out the 2.7” LCD screen on top, allowing you to browse photos and choose which ones you want to print. You can print up to 25 photos on one charge, but the initial package only comes with 10 sheets of photo 3” x 4” photo paper. The photos do promise to be smudge-proof and waterproof, so you don’t need to watch your fingers as closely.
So, who’s up for reliving the joy of the instant camera? The experience is bound to be tarnished since we don’t get to shake the photos to make them develop faster, which was most of the fun in the first place. Still, it should be a nice companion when you hit your next big event with your friends. The next Lady Gaga show, perhaps?
The Polaroid Z340 Instant Digital Camera, part of Gaga’s Grey Label Polaroid line, costs about $300. You can snap it up from Polaroid’s website now.
