There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the opening of the Apple Store in Grand Central this weekend. After all, it’s not every day that an electronics store takes over a massive area in one of the busiest and most famous train station terminals in the world.
Being the fearless Apple fans that we are, we went ahead and braved the crowds to go and see what the hullabaloo about the new Apple Retail Store at Grand Central was all about. The new Apple retail store overlooks the historic Main Concourse from the East and North East balconies. It has enough room to fit in two Genius Bars and a whole room dedicated to just accessories.
In the end, it wasn’t so much the crowds that amazed us, but the massive space that Apple has taken over in Grand Central. Area after area and room after room on the upper level has been transformed into a Mac enthusiasts paradise. Now that we’ve strolled the space, it comes at no surprise that Apple claims that the store is run by 315 employees. There seems to be red shirts in every direction that you turn. As well as the national guard patrolling the different concourses due to the massive amounts of commuters and Apple gawkers.
Furthermore, considering the fact that most Apple Stores more or less look the same, it’s also almost a bit jarring, to see the traditional Apple Retail Store set-up laid out along the classically designed interior of Grand Central. If you are brave enough to head to this new location, the hours of operations are: Monday – Friday 7am to 9pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm.
