Fisher Price truly understands the kids market, and their new portable DVR player fills a gap you didn’t know it had. Designed to be ultra tough, their new portable video player can be dropped, thrown and kicked around, without it affecting playback quality or sound. Available in two rather sexists shades of pink and blue (I wonder who those are for?) the player is suitable for kids aged 3 and up and features a 3.5 inch touchscreen. We were encouraged to throw it around a little to see how it fared and it coped well with a knock on the table and an adventurous throw across the room.
It features 2 hours of onboard memory and you can expand this to 32GB via the MicroSD card slot. The battery is rechargeable, and it comes packaged with a neat little docking station which can also act as a viewing mount. The case feels comfortable to the tough, with the ruggedized display softened by the tactile areas, which make holding it easy.
You can attach the Portable Kid-Tough DVR to your TV or satellite system and programme it to record and save your favourite TV shows onto its hard drive; then simply unplug, place in child’s hand, and that 3 hour car journey is much sweeter. It includes built in stereo speakers and there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack which you can use.
It will retail for $149.99 from June 2012.
