Ford’s TuneIn Radio App to Offer Drivers 50,000+ Global Stations with Voice-Controlled SYNC

CES 2012 saw Ford release a very interesting announcement in the field of car/smartphone integration with the new TuneIn Radio App that works in tandem with SYNC connectivity system. Drivers can access and control apps on their smartphones with just their voice, making for safer driving. 10 models have this capability including: The 2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Fiesta, F-150, F-150 SVT Raptor, Super Duty, Expedition, E-Series and Shelby GT500, and the 2012 Ford Mustang.

TuneIn is a free service that lets people listen to live local and global music, sports, talk and news by offering more than 50,000 AM, FM, HD and Internet radio stations along with more than 1 million on-demand programs streaming from all corners of the world.

SYNC equipped vehicles’ drivers will be able to control TuneIn through voice controls to navigate the many options. They can even just ask to peruse the different stations by saying “Explore Genre” or “Explore location,” it will then give you rank them by most popular and start playing them. Now when things get awkward on family road trips, you can lighten the mood with some Austrian Polka music, or practice your Bollywood moves with an Indian radio station. Bottom line, your road trips will never have to be silent again. This is just the start too. Many developer are turning their eyes towards developing these type of product integrated apps for SYNC. It will be exciting to see what comes up.
