Toshiba has just announced the world’s thinnest 10″ tablet, the Toshiba Excite X10. The Excite X10 is an Android Honeycomb tablet designed for durability and style. It features a high-quality magnesium alloy back with a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass display and an anti-smudge coating.
The Excite uses a 10.1 inch LED backlit LCD display with a resolution of 1280×800. The back of the Excite is a gorgeous, industrial-looking, magnesium alloy brushed metal surface–which happens to be very durable. It’s powered by a TI multicore 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. The Excite is WiFi only, but includes a GPS, compass, and Bluetooth.
The Excite is marketed as Entertainment Driven. It includes stereo speakers with sound enhancements by Toshiba and SRS Labs. The display uses “AutoBrite” technology and the video is upscaled by something Toshiba calls Resolution+. It has a micro-HDMI port for outputting video to the big screen.
Hands on, the Excite felt real comfortable. It was very light, just 1.18lbs, without feeling cheap. It’s available in a 16GB or a 32GB variety (with expandable micro-SD storage) for $529.99 and $599.99. To sum it up: The Toshiba Excite X10 is a good looking 10.1″ Android Honeycomb tablet that’s ultra thin, light, powerful, and tough. It will be available within the next couple months (Mid-Q1).
