The newest release of the SmartStart App, version 3.0, was introduced today at CES 2012 by Viper. The app works with the in-car SmartStart system, a box that helps users remotely manage locking, unlocking, and car security using their smartphones.
The biggest new feature is SmartSchedule. Users submit their location and routine to Viper’s cloud servers, which will then monitor temperature, location, and schedule variables to determine when it is time to remotely start warming up their car. This is done via an alert which is pushed from the cloud servers to the user’s smartphone. Diagnostic information about the vehicle will also be available, but only for selected vehicle installations. Auxiliary channels and enhanced System Status round out the new features for SmartStart users.
In order to use the app, you’ll need to have a SmartStart system installed in your car – there are several options listed on Viper’s website, but none of them come particularly cheap. The app is only available for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry, so keep that in mind, as well. The SmartStart 3.0 update goes live sometime during Q1 of 2012.
