Hands-On with the LAZER TAG Blaster (2012)
Do you remember LAZER TAG?? Well this classic game is being re-imagined for 2012 by Hasbro. Introduced at Toy Fair, this latest twist on LAZER TAG involves an awesome piece of plastic artillery and your iPhone / iPod Touch. In order to bring your game to life you will need to download the augmented reality LAZER TAG app where you will be immersed in a new world that has planes flying over your head, the ability to switch weapons on the fly, and where you can easily release firepower upon your enemies.
Using either single or multi-player mode, players can engage in a LAZER TAG match featuring either real life worlds or virtual opponents. Each LAZER TAG blaster has a virtual firing range of over 250 feet and contains a ‘Heads Up Display’, or HUD, which allows players to keep track of their gear and remaining power, while also providing a view of the augmented reality targets and enemies in the area.
The 2012 LAZER TAG will come in either a two player or single player set, but I doubt you will have a hard time finding someone willing to play with you. One of the nicest features of LAZER TAG is that it is backwards compatible as well as future proof. Both newer and older generations of the iPhone and iPod Touch will fit inside the guns. So those concerned that the iPhone 5 won’t fit, it most likely will, or those who still have an iPhone 3GS you are totally good to go and blast away.
Once we got our hands on the LAZER TAG Blaster Set, we couldn’t put it down. The game is as addicting as ever and the app is so intuitive that you are immersed in a whole new world like never before. The proprietary LAZER TAG app is as smooth as silk and upon taking down an opponent, you see a plume of smoke with every shot that is fired accurately. This new toy is most definitely putting that wanna be Xappr gun to shame.
Overall, this is an exciting opportunity for LAZER TAG fans – both young and old, to embrace this iconic game once again. Both the single player LAZER TAG and LAZER TAG 2 BLASTER will be available starting August 1st, and will retail for for $39.99 and $69.99 respectively.
