Did you know that Lexus had a supercar? We didn’t know either, until we were introduced to the Lexus LFA. The Lexus LFA has been in production since 2000, and this supercar, is both super sexy under the hood and inside of the car. There are a limited amount of LFA’s in production, and an example of one such person who actually owns one just happens to be Paris Hilton. The sticker price on this beauty is $375,000, and for those who are wealthy car enthusiasts, they would consider every dollar of that well spent.
So what makes the LFA the grand dame of the Lexus automobile line? A 4.8-liter V10 engine that generates 553 hp (412kW/560DIN hp) and 354 lb-ft (480Nm) of torque for 202 mph (325km/h) performance, along with a unique six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG) with paddle shifters for the most intense driving control. The ASG is located in a transaxle layout over the rear axle for an optimal 48:52 front-to-rear weight distribution.
Besides making your mouth drool over the engine and guts of the car, the interior touches shine through as well. Carbon Fiber construction is used throughout the interior of the car, from everything from the steering wheel to even the under the hood, and the chassis. The driver seat is pretty low inside the car too, as is the passenger seat, so that your eyes are always peeled to the road, which helps make you one with the car.
“The LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a lightweight, powerful and balanced machine engineered to achieve one single goal – to deliver a supreme driving experience,” explains Haruhiko Tanahashi, chief engineer of the LFA’s development program. “Over the past decade we have pushed every boundary – including the development of our own cutting edge carbon fiber monocoque chassis and bodywork – in the pursuit of this goal. I believe that we have created the most driver-oriented car we possibly could.”
There are only 500 LFA cars being planned for production and all of them will be all hand-assembled by “Lexus LFA Works” at the Motomachi Plant in Toyota City. We are talking the Haute couture of automobiles here. The plant will produce only 20 of these a month, as to not rush the quality, and instead guarantee that each vehicle receives the intense attention to detail that it requires.
We were lucky enough to do a hot lap in the Lexus LFA and all we have to say is “we want more!” The experience was exhilarating, and even more so with a professional driver at the wheel. We might not have pushed the LFA to its limits, but for the brief time we spent in the this supercar… all we wanted afterwards was more! Check out the video below for our in-car experience during the hot lap inside the Lexus LFA.
