Those looking for an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet on the cheap can look forward to Coby’s new offerings, hitting stores this month. The 7” and 9.7” models are dropping first, followed later this spring by an 8” tablet, a 9” tablet, and two 10” tablets with differing aspect ratios.
Aside from running Ice Cream Sandwich, all upcoming Coby tablets will run on a 1 GHz A8 ARM Cortex processor and feature 1 GB of RAM. Most will have 8 GB of on-board storage, plus a Micro SD card slot. The 7” and 8” tablets will only have 4 GB of on-board storage. All tablets have Wi-Fi compatibility and a rear-facing camera, though there appears to be nothing in the way of a front-facing camera. All have access to the GetJar App Store.
They’re pretty bare-bones as far as 2012 tablets go, and that’s reflected in the prices. The 7” offering is $179, while the 9.7” tablet is $279. When they are released later this spring, the 8” tablet will be $229 and the 9” tablet will be $259. The 10” tablet with a 16:9 aspect ratio will be $289, while the 10” tablet with a 16:10 aspect ratio will be $299.
