GreatCall LiveNurse – It's Like WebMD, But With a Real Person
If you’ve ever used WebMD before, you probably already know that you have cancer. Or the plague. Or the plague-cancer. Not to say WebMD is totally useless, but more often than not, worst-case scenario is the impression a lot of people come away with. The lesson? It’s next to impossible to get good medical advice without consulting an actual medical professional. GreatCall is trying to make those professionals more accessible for everyone.
LiveNurse offers users access to consultation from a registered nurse 24/7. The nurse, when contacted, will give the user a short survey about the existing condition before transferring the user to an appropriate care provider. It’s a much more direct way of seeking out help and information than searching for information on the Web, which can leave you more confused than you were at first.
LiveNurse also provides access to the A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia, which provides well-researched medical information directly from the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. While accessing that information, users can shake their phone to bring up a help bubble specific to the content being researched.
GreatCall LiveNurse is a free download, and costs $3.99 per month. It’s available now on the iTunes App Store.
