Drobo Mini is a Tiny New Thunderbolt-Friendly External Storage Device
For media professionals who need to move, load, and swap a ton of data on the go, Drobo a new device coming soon that will take advantage of the new high transfer speeds of USB 3.0 and, in particular, Thunderbolt.
The Drobo Mini is very small, at 7” x 7” x 2”, and weighs less than three pounds. The Mini can hold up to four 2.5” drives, all of which are hot-swappable thanks to spring-loading. When purchasing the Mini, customers can choose between hard disk drives and solid state drives. The Mini also has USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports.
Drobo Mini will use BeyondRAID technology for data protection, allowing users to use algorithms to encrypt data in an easy-to-use way. Data will also be specially protected in the event of a power outage.
The Drobo Mini is expected in stores this summer. The Drobo Mini will have a base price of $599. That price does not include drives, only the housing, which includes the USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports and the core BeyondRAID technology.
