With walled gardens and ecosystems and all of that nonsense becoming the norm for tech giants like Apple, Amazon, and Google recently, many thought they would never see the day when an Amazon Instant Video app appeared on an iPad.
Well, the day has finally come. Kind of. Using the Amazon Instant Video app, Amazon Prime customers can watch movies or television shows that they have rented or purchased from the service. There’s an even an option to download that content so you can watch it later online.
There is a catch. Amazon Prime customers can watch content that they have rented or purchased from Amazon, they just can’t do the actual renting or purchasing using the app. The reason for that goes back to why many thought an Amazon Instant Video app for the iPad would never happen – Apple takes a 30% cut of all in-app sales, something Amazon, which sells a lot of content, is not keen on giving up. So, the two tech giants continue their multi-billion dollar slap fight, and you get slightly inconvenienced in the process. Hey, at least the app exists, I guess.
Amazon Instant Video for the iPad is available now on the iTunes App Store for free.
