Speck FabShell Burton Case for iPhone 5 Review
Burton, the king of snow gear, has teamed up with Speck to provide the coolest fabric wrapped iPhone 5 case around. This hard-shelled one-piece case provides your brand new phone with nice protection, a neat design, and sleek lightweight coverage.
The Speck FabShell Burton is a one piece hard shell case covered in a textured fabric. It’s form fitting and has a very snug fit. Though it may be described as rubbery, it feels like more like plastic with some flex. It’s a bit lighter and thinner then Speck’s iPhone 5 CandyShell cases. In fact, it’s about as thin as you’ll get for a protective iPhone 5 case. The edges around the screen are all raised and will ease the impact of most any drop.
Like other Speck Cases, there are nice large button overlays for easily accessing the volume and lock buttons. Unfortunately on the FabShell, the lock button is way too stiff. There are nice sized cutouts for iPhone’s ports, speakers, and camera.
The side of the case is branded with a Burton logo and a Speck logo. There’s also a raised Burton logo on the back of the case. Aside from the edges, the entire case is covered in a cloth material with custom patterns you could expect from Burton. The patterns even match their apparel lineup.
While the Speck Burton FabShell has a unique look and feel, we’ve seen these fabric cases wear and peel on older models. Unless you’re in love with the appearance or you have matching Burton gear, we’d recommend Speck’s CandyShell Grip, which has a nifty design, extra protection, and a nice grip. The Speck Burton FabShell for iPhone 5 is currently available in three different fabric patterns for $39.99 from Speck.com. This price will eventually come way down on Amazon.com.
The Good: Sleek, Light, Matches Burton Apparel, Unique Fabric, Button Overlays
