Virgin Mobile’s FreeFest 2012 has just wrapped up and this year’s festival blew audiences away with a line-up that included Skrillex, Jack White, ZZ Top, Nas, Santiold, and more.
This is Virgin Mobile’s 3rd year running FreeFest, a totally free music festival where contest-goers are encouraged to make donations or do volunteer work in exchange for a free ticket. Virgin Mobile’s attitude for FreeFest is that the event is all about encouraging people to help their community and they’re doing so, by rewarding them with good karma in the form of an awesome all day long festival.
All proceeds for this year’s FreeFest are going to open up the doors at Virgin Mobile RE*Generation House, a homeless youth shelter in Washington D.C. Last year enough money was raised at FreeFest to build the house, and this year, thanks to FreeFest’s proceeds, the house will be open for business. Besides for Virgin Mobile’s involvement in the project, LG is not only a sponsor of FreeFest, but they will also be providing the RE*Generation house with all of its appliances, TV, and electronic equipment.
Speaking of LG, the mobile phone company had a massive Chromacube at FreeFest where folks could come to use the latest LG smartphones to paint inside a massive live light installation. It was also a great place to grab a drink and charge up your phone during breaks. Furthermore, LG had “mysterious” phone booths littered around the grounds which were giving out prizes to anyone passing by who heard the phone booth ring and decided to “answer to a higher calling.”
Finally, each check-in on FourSquare to FreeFest at the Merriweather Post Pavillion resulted in a $5 donation to the RE*Generation, up to $5,000. So even with a simple check in, FreeFest’s ragers were helping out a worthy cause.
