2012 will be remembered as the year that department stores everywhere finally shed every last pretension of humanity when it comes to Black Friday, consuming Thanksgiving Day itself in its dark hunger for dollars. Kmart is barely even trying to hide it, opening on Thanksgiving Day morning before being merciful enough to close at 4:00 PM.
But, deals are to be had, and Black Friday offers deals like no other day. Here’s a rundown of when major retailers are opening up shop this year, and when you can grab the best deals available.
Staples – Opens Friday at 5:00 AM, an hour earlier than last year. Also, for the first time, Staples will run exclusive deals for mobile shoppers. There will be hourly flash sales on Staples’ mobile website, for smartphone shoppers. Also available on the mobile site will be coupons that can be used in-store when presented on a mobile device. The hourly flash sales will begin at 11:00 PM on Thanksgiving, and the mobile coupons will be available from 5:00 AM to noon on Friday.
Kmart – Open from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Thanksgiving Day. Open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Friday.
Target – Open from 9:00 PM on Thanksgiving Day to 11:00 PM on Friday. Best deals will be available from 4:00 AM to noon on Friday.
Macy’s – Best deals will be available from midnight to 1:00 PM on Friday.
Walmart – Opens Thanksgiving Day at 8:00 PM, with special deals available at that time. Walmart will further reward Thanksgiving Day shoppers with special deals for those in-store or in line between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM. Those are as follows:
Sears – Open from 8:00 PM to 11:59 PM on Thanksgiving Day.
JCPenney – Open from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Friday.
Toys ‘R’ Us – Opens Thanksgiving Day at 8:00 PM.
Best Buy – Opens Friday at midnight.
Kohl’s – Black Friday deals from midnight to 1:00 PM on Friday.
Bed Bath and Beyond – Open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Friday.
