Awkward family photos are just as much of a holiday tradition as anything. Good thing those won’t be in short supply, thanks in part to the valiant return of OfficeMax’s Elf Yourself.

The web app, which has been around for quite a few years now as a holiday staple, lets you plaster your face onto one of several dancing elves, which can dance to several different kinds of music as part of an e-card you can send to any number of bewildered friends or family members. This year, the amount of elves you can pack into an e-card is up to five, accommodating families of that size who all want to get in on the elf act. Maybe you can even get the dog in there, though I’m not sure how a dog head on an elf body is going to turn out.

Also new this year is the live cam, which will allow you to use your web camera to stream live, while the app provides the elfishness. I couldn’t get that part of the app to work – I don’t know whether or not that’s a testament to the app’s popularity. It’s possible, since the “elves made” ticker on the bottom never seems to stop moving.
