Every year NORAD helps kids track Santa as he makes his way from the North Pole and travels around the world. This is the 54th year that NORAD has made it possible for kids to track Santa online. But this year, NORAD has made it easier than ever to track Mr. Claus with several mobile apps. For starters, there is a NORAD Tracks Santa app for Windows Phone, Android, iOS (iPhone), and even for the new Windows 8. Alternatively you can use track Santa in 3D with Cesium, or use Bing Maps to track Santa in your web browser in 2D.
Of-course, you can always track Santa the old fashioned way by calling the NORAD Tracks Santa Operations Center. The center opens at 5:00AM (EST) this morning and will remain open until 5:00am EST on December 25th.
And last but not least, you can even email NORAD to find out Santa’s current location! You can actually thank HP for this last option, because HP is responsible for helping out the NORAD Command Center this year. To that effect they have provided NORAD with 35 HP EliteBook 8470p laptops! These laptops have been tested for vibration, dust, shock, altitude, high and low temperature, temperature shock, humidity and other weather-related factors, so they’re ready for whatever the North Pole throws at them. They also let users plug in additional monitors, to further help NORAD’s staff keep an eye on Santa’s journey.
So what’s next for NORAD in 2013? We’d love to be able to track Santa with text message alerts!
